Why a new thread? Because I don't feel like making people wad through old posts and Artwork to get to the new stuffs

Anyway, I have decided to start drawing again! I never actually decided to stop, I just sorta... Did. But I'm back now, and artistic as ever! Ok, not THAT artistic, but I think I'm getting a little better

For those who don't know the old thread, I'm training myself in the ways of Anime/Manga art (Moreso VN art, really) and would like to have as much (Usually Constructive) Criticism as possible! I'll be updating this thread periodically, so please check back often ^.^

-August 12th-

Some people might recognize this person
If you don't, I won't blame you. I will blame my scanner, which seems to have compressed a bit of the right half of her... And also my own skills, which already slightly compressed that half of the face

Still don't got it? It's Tomoyo from Clannad! While I didn't quite trace the picture, it is based off of This CG from the Game. What the scene is about is a huge spoiler, but by itself it's harmless ^.^

This is the first CG-based drawing I did where I decided to go for 'Making it look decent' over 'Making it look accurate.' And boy am I glad I didn't try to draw the pattern on that coat... That would have made a HUGE mess.

Anyway, as a quick self-reflection, I need to remind myself to make sure both eyes and both pockets (And any other should-be symmetrical objects) are the same size! That, and make sure that the face is more centered on the head... >.<


-August 14-

Today I did another drawing of Tomoyo; However, this one isn't from Clannad. It's a spinoff from Clannad that has Tomoyo as the main (And only) Heroine, and it's named Tomoyo After ~It's a Wonderful Life~. It takes place after the Tomoyo route in the VN, though anyone who's watched Clannad ~After Story~ should've guessed that . The image in question is This one, though I can't tell you what's going on, as I haven't read it yet. XD

Anyway, I tried to do some shading in this one, and I think it turned out pretty good. I might have done a bit too much in some places, but I think it turned out fine. I also got some originality in there, as I was drawing in portrait, even though it's a landscape . Not much, but it's something XD

Sadly my scanner cut off a bit on the left. I guess that's the price of making sure it scans properly

You definitely have improved.
For starters, you didn't quite the catch the feeling of the character, your drawing has Tomoyo in a slight surprise and a really really really faint smile, while the CG has Tomoyo in a depressed look, this is mainly because of the eyebrows. Your drawing has Tomoyo's eyebrows a little higher from a normal position and they're arched, while in the CG they are closer to the eyes, more diagonal, and almost straight.
The eyebrows are one of the most importants things in a drawing of a person to express emotion, and you should pay close attention to them, especially if you're using the anime style.

You made the corners of the head too sharp.

You also did close to no shading, which makes some parts look weird, like the pockets, which show no sign of there being hands inside.

Overall you did a pretty good job, but it could have been better.

I can totally see all of those points

I never thought about how important the eyebrows were... I'll definitively keep that in mind from now on

Anyways, I think I'm going to try hard to shade my next one! Look forward to it!

I'll get to Battler eventually, but it's going to have to be when I'm finally good enough to draw without exact reference
I kinda dislike the PS3 version's art compared to the original, and the fact that they changed it to ADV style over NVL style just really Irks me off >.<
...But that's kinda going off-topic
