Recently Sega began a contest to have fans design a mascot character to be presented at a Nico Nico show. The contest is international so any one can give a mascot to Sega. This mascot will not replace Sonic the hedgehog. The mascot appears to be only for the Nico Nico contest however it does seem possible that Sega has future plans for the mascot because the winner gets all future merchandise of the mascot for free.
