According to a rumor, the next Sonic game is called “Sonic Excursion.” This rumor comes from someone named Wentos, who apparently is the same person who leaked legitimate information regarding Sonic Generations prior to its release. Among a list of rumors, which can be read below, Wentos says that the unannounced game will feature Sonic, Tails, Dr. Eggman, Knuckles and Amy Rose.

Level titled “Shattered Heights” will be reminiscent of New York. Wil consist of Sonic and Tails breaking through tall buildings as humans gasp in horror
Sonic and Tails communicate to each other in every level and discuss surroundings. Each character can access parts the other character can’t.
Developers aim to make a Sonic Generations that played like the Genesis titles
The game will feature Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Knuckles, and Amy Rose, along with some sort of Magical necklace.
Emblems will make returns. Levels will include S rank missions, “Collect all Red Ring” missions, and side missions for ever character.
Will be released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, 3DS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Infinite November 2013. All the versions will be the same, PC PS4 and XboxInfinite will have much higher resolutions. 3DS version will not be handled by Dimps

Seeing as how well Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations did, I safely say that I'm cautiously optimistic for this. Assuming this rumor is true though. Though I do hope Amy isn't playable, or at least, she needs major improvement in her gameplay as she sucked in SA1.

So they´re sticking to 2D gameplay? I always adored Adventures 2 on the NGC but I guess for most people it didn't work out. Hopefully they can prevent the series from getting stale. 

To be honest, I haven't bought a Sonic game in ages. Most recent one was Sonic Rush...

I really do hope SEGA knows that they're doing.  I love 3D sonic, but they can still make good 2D games, like Sonic Colors or the portions of Sonic Generations.

I don't have any worries about Amy, she always handled just fine in the 2D games.

Hoping 2D gameplay means Sonic Colors style gameplay and not Sonic 4. I like that fancy gameplay more I guess. Will buy either way probably.

As for the new installment, I would really like it if they continued with Sonic Generations fashion but add a tad more Sonic Adventure-esque gameplay to the mix. I felt at times Generations was clunky and disorienting with the somewhat irritating camera scheme.

I haven't played a Sonic game since Sonic and Knuckles... I did play the Sonic CD re-release, but that's not really a new game. If this game is good, it will be the first new Sonic game I'd buy in almost... forever.

What's interesting is how they refer to the next Microsoft console as the Xbox Infinite. That's the first I've heard anyone referring to it as that. It may well be nothing significant though. They also mention the PS4 and "Xbox Infinte" versions release in November along with all the other versions indicating both consoles will be out around that time or before.

Assuming this game exists, I might want it on the best system. Which leads to another question... how much more powerful will XBox 720 and PS4 be than Wii U?

I'm sorry, but I call fake on this one. 'Excursion'?? Doesn't even have a good ring to it. In fact, let me show you why this new subtitle doesn't add up.

 

If you are gonna whip up a good rumored sonic title, at least try to make it sound like one.
