Amazon UK, Base.com to follow suit shortly according to Eurogamer

All these price drop headlines on all the gaming sites right now must be killing Nintendo. :(

It hurts us the owners that paid full launch price, i simply don't class it a budget console and feel the devalue price drops will not help its rep in the game world.

I don't know why people are whining and complaining about the reduced prices. If you're an early adopter and you paid the original price then that is the price you pay for buying early ( no pun intended ). If the lower prices help to stimulate sales of the hardware then that can only be a good thing.

Agreed, lets hope this shows a big rise in sales.

Its does cheapen the value of the product a bit, but thats Nintendo's fault for releasing a Beta version of their console.  Seriously, its like Nintendo just wanted to get the Wii U on shelves for 2012 knowing very well that they didnt have all their ducks in a row yet.  The very casual gamers rarely buy a console at launch, and yet Nintendo's first party offering were two very casual games.  With retailers sticking with these low prices though, its going to be hard for Nintendo to maintain its current suggested retail price over in the UK.  Even if Nintendo decides to not drop the price here in the US, they may be forced by retailers to drop the price in the UK.

On a good note, it does seem like Nintendo is prepping for a big push starting this summer.  They will have their 2nd big OS update, and will also have Pikmin ready for release in Auguest.  This is when I expect marketing to ramp back up for the Wii U.  Having a high profile release every month starting in Auguest through the end of the year along with a strong marketing push should pull the Wii U out of its current slump.  It would be hard to avoid success when releasing Baynonetta in September, 3D Mario game in October, a Zelda game in November, and a Mario Kart game in December.

The bottom line is Nintendo really wasnt prepared for a strong launch, and instead of trying to bandaid things over the past few months, they have decided to regroup and get ready for a big push in the second half of 2013.

Ugh, I put the Amazon.co.uk basic set in my shopping cart and, after adjustment for currency, it would only cost $208 to ship to the US!!

I believe wholesale cost to retailers is $220 for the Basic set, so they are taking a $12 loss per console right now.

I think the reason they are not marketing it is because people will buy it now, find that there isn't any games, sell it again and never buy it again, while if they wait for the big first party games to come out, then they can market it with all there flashy games and such and people will buy it with tons of games!

Wow I haven't thought of that! It might be true.

why do you need two WiiU's ?

the price drop is just for the normal version, the premium one is the best one to get.

instead of wasting your money on a second WiiU, go & get a 3DS original !

I'm going to wait and see how well the Wiiu gets back on its feet now, i don't need another one but it would be handy as our whole household are gamers. We have a couple of the others for this reason.

From what i can gather the white one won't show finger prints like our black one does(which is a pet hate of mine) so what with usb hard drives i don't see the reason to spend more on a black one when they sort out the marketing push.

The wii mini has been a huge flop in the UK as well. Nintendo aren't have a great time at the moment in the UK and Europe.

They need to come up with a great bundle and competitive price for a big Xmas 2013 push.

No point trying to keep to a £250 price point for the 32GB version. Really needs to be £199 with 1 or 2 games bundled in.

They might as well stop producing the basic model and just make the 32GB version available in multiple colours.

I don't know why they wasted money developing the wii mini.

My morrisons, hasn't sold a single wii u game. Disappointing, especially seeing as they went to town on the 3DS. (As much as Morrisons can. Lowest price, cheaper games etc.)

What exactly are you envisioning in your statement, "if all support goes south"?  Nintendo just giving up on the console and not doing anything?  That would seem to go against their own history and what Iwata has been saying about their dedication to Wii U.

Sony gave up on the Vita. If the Wii U was Sony's console then they would've given up.

I'm sorry, that was meant to be sarcasm. On the internet I sometimes feel a little bit Sheldon-y because it's difficult to convey sarcasm.

I actually don't think the price cuts will shift the wii u this year either I'm a bit gutted really two of my mates sold their consoles a while back because they weren't happy hardly seems practical for us early adopters to sell now as we will take huge hit plus i do have a soft spot for nintendo games still I'm just not convinced e3 or the price cuts will help as I see sales being stale for this year due to the new xbox and ps4 people will be saving hard to buy these when released but I actually think wii u could be clever here with pricing next year as it could really make a viable option as a second console if priced right for people.
