I don't know how anyone else feels about this, but I feel that the term "fanboy/fangirl" isn't good enough anymore to describe the sheer fanaticism some gamers are willing to display regarding their favorite consoles, I think the term "Cultists" might work better because for the past 6 years I've seen ps3 fans and xbox 360 fans practically gank each other on various gaming forums as if its their life's duty to defend their favorite consoles. 

 

Of course both the ps3 crowd and xbox 360 crowd weren't exactly all that kind to Nintendo products either.  It amazes me at how far brand loyalty has come from being small time thing to something disturbingly cult like.  

 

I wasn't much loyal to a single brand, and I remember getting laugh at by some college classmates because I owned an xbox 360 when most of them owned a ps3.  Of course my 360 bricked on me after 2 years of usage so I bought the ps3 which wasn't much different to the 360 in terms of the games library (in fact nearly all of my ps3 games are the exact same games I have for my broken xbox 360).

 

Sorry for the long post, but what do you guys think, do you find console wars irritating, entertaining, or mildly disturbing?  I would love to see more opinions on this matter.

 

Hopefully console flame wars will die down this generation though...

i dont really care about them unless it ruins friendships, and on the note 360 v ps3 imo the ps3 is better because the online is free and it has better first party, you may disagree, but thats how i feel about it

ubisoft seems to be getting some bad rep lately especially regarding Heroes of might and magic 5 and 6, ask any HoMM fans but I wasn't aware of Ubisoft screwing over nintendo. What exactly happened between them?

Wow, even in real life it happens. Like hell it would end, its just the beginning, look at how many Sony fanboys gloat about their PS4, and they are the worst of the bunch. Watch, when Microsoft reveals theirs, it will be worse. Then PC elitist will come right in aswell.

 

This is why i just play Hyperdimension Neptunia, its a anime style console war with the big 3 and Sega. Now they get along.

its just sad that people are declaring allegiance to something they bought with their own money, considering that most companies are not all that genuinely gracious to have such loyalty in their customers especially since the trade language in the corporate world is money. 

 

I don't know, I decided to make this topic partially because Nintendo fans tend to get the worse end of the bullying from other console cultists.  Then again the PC crowd seems to hate everyone, sometimes even each other.

I think your right, it is a bit cultist. However, I understand most of sony fanboy arguments, and Nintendo, and PC. But the Xbox has almost nothing going for it. It is just a crappy PC that you have to pay for online, it has no good exclusives except Halo, and the console was completely centered around my least favorite genre, FPS.

I actually have to agree with him. You can't just single out console fanboys, they're ALL bad. Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, PC, etc. They're all the same morons with brand loyalty.

And those are the same arguments (which are mostly opinions) that fanboys use against each other.

I think its impossible to single out any kind of fanatics in the gaming world, which is why I am much more perplexed by brand loyalty in general.  Brand loyalty turned into a cult of personality.  I myself am not loyal to any type of console, though i must say that  from what I have seen in most forums, there seems to be less brand loyal fanatics in and around Nintendo's field of influence and most other console loyalists tend to be far more vocal.

I have to disagree with that. I've seen an equal amount of these fanatics on every side. Nintendo's fanatics are no different. They're always so quick to mention how their first party games blow the other companies away, among other things.

guess sanity is in short supply these days, I wonder how most game companies feel about fans swearing loyalty to them, if those companies even bother to read forum threads that is.

I've become a Nintendo fan boy recently. Im not the one who says that you suck BC of ur console of choice, but I defend Nintendo constantly against my friends who say that its going to fail.

It's all good. Virtually everyone on here doesn't like Microsoft for their own reasons. I'm probably one of the few here that like their consoles.

CoD honestly ruined the FPS genre IMHO.  Seriously, in the 90s  they used to have games like Unreal Tournament, Doom, Quake, Turok, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and a number of others with large amounts of variety and different aesthetic appeal and even gameplay differences.  Nowadays, its either CoD or games like CoD.
