I've played both, and I love both of them. It's hard for me to decide, but I find San Andreas to be the better game. They're both great games for different reasons though.

I've only actually played San Andreas, it was my first, and last GTA.
But, it was awesome, played it for ages, mostly just messing around. The one thing I remember the most is that massive jump in the northern desert. Used to drive all the way there, then balls it up and wreck my car just before actually getting there. I don't remember much though.
As far as I know though, isn't San Andreas the most recognized and loved GTA?

San Andreas just had so much more you could do, I loved it. The exploration, flying, swimming, eating, body building, all awesome.

Personally I loved Vice City much more, but SA is a much better game TBH. If SA came out before VC than things may have been different, who knows?

San Andreas was amazing for an open world game, you can swim, you can ride a plane, you can even play 2 player.

For me, San Andreas all the way, it was such an amazing game for it's time, I was really disapointed when they never made a Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Stories, it was the only PS2 game to never get that, although GTA V more than makes up for that, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Stories could still be a good idea, maybe on PS Vita????
