Looks like I won't be getting FIFA World Cup 2014 then... My childhood self is in tears.

Here's why EA won the award for the worst company 2 years straight.
because they don't want to waste further money on a console that isn't shifting enough copies for them to make a viable profit?
Now, I love Nintendo, but this is a disaster for them. In the UK, EA was last years (and the year before that!) biggest game retailer and developer. Nintendo are attempting to change their image from a kiddies console to a viable console to compete against the PS4 and the new Xbox. Not having the support of EA is, quite literally, going to destroy any chance the U has of competing with the other consoles (although Nintendo already missed that ship anyway). I don't play any of EA's long-running game series and I don't plan to, but this is going to cause irreparable damage to the U and Nintendo and because of EA's influence (as the biggest developer of video games in Europe), it is going to make other developers wary about developing on the U.

The only reason I tend to downplay the significance of EA is because of the facts, and the facts say that EA's games on Nintendo consoles are rarely in the top 25 best selling games on Nintendo consoles. They only accounted for about 8 titles in the best selling 100 Wii games, and about 17 of the best selling Gamecube games. Ubisoft has had far more success on Nintendo consoles over the past two generations, and even though EA is bigger than Ubisoft, they dont pull the same weight on Nintendo consoles. Would the Wii U be better off with EA than without? Yea, of course, but the majority of gamers that would have purcahsed a Wii U will still purcahse one regardless of EA's support.

EA originally was a Wii U publisher.
then they backed out.
Rumor was because Nintendo wouldn't let them force gamers into privacy invading, subscription laden, money-bleeding contracts.
Then we hear about Xbox "always-on" rumors... Next thing, EA is a huge friend of Microsoft...
Something about puzzle pieces fitting together...
but anyway...
EA then backing out is one thing, but calling Wii U "not next gen," cancelling completed games for Wii U, and then halting all development whatsoever... that's just evil.
And perhaps they are getting what's coming to them with the recent Nintendo/Sega alliance.
The hard part is EA publishes some great franchises from some great developers. No doubt those developers hate it, but have to sound rosy in public so as to keep those writing their checks happy.
No if Valve would go exclusively wii U (outside of that "Steam Box" weirdness)...

I hear what you are saying but that isn't quite true. There are lots of folks who will be skipping Wii U due to a lack of EA games. Madden is a huge deal. Absolutely huge. Given the Wii U's hardware and performance potential, it could be the only console for some people to ever need. But with EA being EA, they are removing that from the equation. therfore, some people will be getting PS4 of Xbox for EA games. Add to the the next Mass Effect series, and Need for Speed games, and it is a big loss and a loss of motivation to pick up a Wii U.
The reality is that it hurts the Wii U in a very big way.
But it's not an insurmountable hurdle.
Especially with Sega swooping in to lend a hand in the fight.

EA's refusal to support Nintendo reminds me of a toddler smashing its toys (killing off games ready for realese) because its parents won't take it to Disneyland (Nintendo turning down Origin). A move putting them neck-and-neck with the DPRK in terms of self-destructive, moronic bitterness.

The Wii U is significantly different to the Wii. The Wii had no where near the capabilities to run EA games, so the Wii received pathetically awful attempts at ports (same for pretty much all major releases) so it makes total sense that EA hasn't mattered on Nintendo in the past. However, now that Nintendo is attempting to compete with Sony and Microsoft, quite frankly, they need EA. Nintendo, in reality, can not really have a successful console to compete without *THE* most successful and the biggest developer of games.
But, let's take aside EA. EA, due to its status as biggest game manufacture, they have a tremendous amount of influence. EA boycotting the U is also detrimental in that other developers are going to begin to think twice before releasing on the U - especially exclusives (as has already happened with Rayman, for example).

Lots of people buy EA games like it or not, all this will mean for the WiiU is that less people will buy it & thus more developers & publishers will stop supporting it.
I hate to say this being a Nintendo fan (supported) but they screwed up with the WiiU.
I have said this time & again, Nintendo need to break this cycle, i have had every Nintendo console (not all handhelds) since the NES but every generation Mario, Zelda, Metroid is rolled out again, but this time it is in 3D or it is 64bit or you can control it by waving your arms about, you can play with a touch screen, the issue is that it is basically the same game, but with better graphics & a new user Interface, this in a way is no different to the Call of Duty games that all Nintendo (apparent fans) rail against for being rubbish.
People are getting tired of the same thing now, i know i am, the thing with the WiiU is that Nintendo said they had big third party support, but they clearly don't & they MUST of know this because the games would of been already being made before the WiiU launched, Nintendo really have to start getting a grip & also moving with the times.
It is hard to understand what Nintendo were thinking of with the WiiU because they knew the issues they had with third party support, they knew there would be the X720 & PS4 released within a year or two of the WiiU launch, they must of has a idea of the power that the X720 & PS4 would have, but what seems to of happened is that the WiiU is seeming underpowered (not able to run the engines that will power games on the X720 & PS4) but also created developing issues like the PS3 had when it was launched.

There may be contracts stopping them from saying anything. Both Nintendo and EA probably can't talk about the deal. Or what was going to be the deal.
EA seemed to be a huge partner back then. :'( Lol oh well.
I was half joking lol

EA's decision makes good business sense sadly. Nintendo really must start shifting more wii u consoles. There is no money to be made developing for wii u unless more consoles are sold.
