Okay, after watching the new video fo the game at today's Nintendo Direct it does not look all that interesting. I mean all you're doing is collecting fruit for your people to survive to prevent "doomsday". I mean I thought that it would be like the little Pikmin's Adventure mini game on Nintendo land which was the sole reason why i was excited for Pikmin 3 because the demo made it seems like a really great franchise. But in a real Pikmin game like the new upcoming one, it doesn't look all that great if all you're doing is collecting fruit. I mean i know I am probably judging the game before giving it a try like I did with Animal Crossing, Because I thought the same thing with animal Crossing but when i actually played it I got really hooked onto the series. Now don't get me wrong, I do still plan to buy this game but is collecting fruits ALL we're going to do in that game? Because it looks like it could get boring at some point. By the way this is going to be my first Pikmin game aside from Pikmin's Adventure on Nintendo Land. That mini game got me more interested in the Pikmin series.

Pretty much, but it's not what you're collecting that's important, it's how you're gonna get to that. From what I can guess by the Nintendo Direct, the fruit is just a way for you to last longer anyway, the real objective is either exploring the land, something i missed him saying or it hasn't been said yet. The fruit is essentially your day system, you last another day with each fruit (or multiple fruits, you might get more juice for bigger, rarer fruits. dunno)

TLDR: It's not the fruits, it's everything but that. Make more of a decision when it's closer to release.

it's interesting in the same way Pikmin 1 and 2 were. Collecting fruit is just a new gameplay mechanic, you already did collect strawberries as regular items in the first games.

This is how Pikmin games are. You gathered ship parts in the first one, and random stuff in part 2. The appeal in Pikmin is strategizing how to obtain the items, taking down monsters, and finding ways to progress through an area before the day is over.

Gathering items is not as easy as you're making it seem. You should play the older games to get a feel for the game.

For those who never play pikmin before go and play 1 then 2. You will see the different how hard is pikmin 1 then 2. as for pikmin 3 the gameplay for it will be the same for 1 that make thing harder and put a lot of challenge for everyone.

A lot of games out there are just as uninteresting as Pikmin, unfortunately.

That's a strange way to look at the game really.

It's like saying all you do in Mario is collect Stars.

It's not about the star, but about what you have to do to get it.

While collecting fruit you're fighting different types of monsters and bosses,

all of which react differently to different types of Pikmin.

You can explore, what appear to be, some decent sized worlds.

Manage your Pikmin, as they all have different strengths and weaknesses.

Reset days to try and optimise your score.

Learn level layouts so you can use the 3 characters to your full advantage.

Look at the full game, not just the end goal.

Don't worry, you'll probably like it. It's not quite as actiony as the minigame but you still kill monsters, etc. It's more of a strategy game. If you have doubts, you can see if any Pikmin 1 Let's Plays exist and watch a few Days of that to get a feel of the gameplay.

It's a strategy game.

Think of the fruit as like enemy bases or something in C&C.

The point IS collecting the fruit. I don't remember exactly what Iwata said, but the story goes something like their homeland is starving and they're on a mission to get food to feed their planet. When they find a fruit, they harvest the seeds (presumably so they can be grown at their planet for food) and then make a juice out of it. Not sure this all scientifically sound (how do they know they will grown on their planet?), but it is interesting nevertheless.

But yeah, the game's enjoyment is about strategizing and adventure it's not about the goal. But I'm honestly not one who understands the appeal of this series either.

collecting the stuff is the objective. but actualy doing it can be hard. pikmin 1 you had a timelimit to find and get everything. you had to explore to get everything withen the day limit and time limit per day. while capturing everything you need you had to get past eneimies and similar.

pikmin 2 had no timelimit except for time during the day. pikmin 2 challanged through the holes mostly which you had a limited # of pikmin, and that game didnt get hard until you started going for the 100% completion(not debt)

the fruit thing is the excuse you get to collect stuff.nothing more, but it wont be easy except maiby on the first few days.

but best thing you can do is try out an earlyier game, hard to describe its appeal. i will say pikmin is good but has a specific audience

.

It's about the strategy and speed you use to get to the items and take down the enemies. Killing the enemies gives you more pikmin which help you get to new areas faster. You can choose a lot of different paths to go on. It's really, really fun, and I think Pikmin 3 will be the best game this year.

Its really addicting, I got my friend into Pikmin cause he was curious about Olimar in Brawl and now he's a big fan. Strategy is key and keeping your pikmin alive.

You have an army of Purple Reggies to command. What more could you want?

(I actually don't care for Pikmin either. At least of what I've played.)

Nobody should have said anything. You should have.let his poor abilities of perception continue denying him good game experiences.

He wont learn if he doesnt think for himself. Its modern game designs fault for conditioning him this way, but only he can fix it.

Pikmin is great. You may need to play 1 and 2 to see. But its possible its just not sure you.

But yea i like it because its kinda of a puzzle game a race for time. its how much can you get done in the time there.

So to me its a great game and im getting it on day one been waiting a long time.

Pikmin 3 will be fun because it's Pikmin 3, simple as.
