Is it just me or has the wii mode quality dramatically improved since the last update?
Hmm, haven't been in Wii mode since. I will have to check it out. Are you specifically speaking about Wii games looking better?

Maybe I'll give it a shot sometime. I played Goldeneye 007 on the Wii U prior to any major updates, and it was bad enough to the point where I couldn't read the text for objectives, subtitles, etc.
The post above was certified to be simply smashing by the Wii U Forum Staff.

Geez-oh!
I've not tried any of my Wii games on the Wii U. How does Super Mario Galaxy and Super Paper Mario look on the Wii U?

I've tried Wii Sports, Super Mario Galaxy & The legend of Zelda Twilight Princess on a 50" plasma (I've read mixed reports on whether this effects image quality or not, also bearing in mind that its a 50" viewed from relatively close distance).
Wii Sports looks more or less unaffected, but I think that this has more to do with the simplicity and lack of massive amounts of small details.
Super Mario Galaxy looks pretty decent, really the rough edges only become apparent when you stop and stand still.
The legend of Zelda Twilight princess is playable, but TBH I'd go for an SD TV play through since it does loose some of its original awe on an HD screen ( or at least it seems).
However I can't confirm whether this is the same post update since I haven’t played any Wii games on my wii u in over two months!

It looks somewhat ugly on my TV (32" 720p): the icons and text are readable, but the models are pixellated and the textures look a bit worse than they do in SD; because I have the screen zoomed out so I can see the full picture (I know they fixed the overscan issue, but it's never really been an issue for me), Wii games are letterboxed as well. Wii U graphics and games are simply beautiful, however.

I'd bet it upscales a bit from the original cables that came with the Wii... Not sure about it being better after an update...
But yeah, the original RCA cables from the Wii are probably only 360p, while I'd guess the Wii U upscales to the max Wii resolution of 480p. I think it was possible to get 480p out of the Wii with optional component cables...
As far as looks go, I think some people think some games look worse on Wii U, but I think that's due to the pixels being crisp, thus the "jaggies" being much more noticeable. After playing on it for a while, though, it looks pretty good.

I guess a decent amount of people! At least probably some LPers did to get the max resolution out of their Wiis. I never did, though.
Heh.

Also, *component.
I played my Wii on component cables. And I meant, who on Earth uses the included Wii cables (composite)? o_o
Ahem, anyway, the original Wii did look better on component than composite.

Composite maxed at 480i, component at 480p. I never saw much of a difference.
