They need more third-party support than just Sega to make the console a contender next generation.

I agree just saying with all the engines skipping the console and 3rd parties seem like they could care less about it... They just need someone to take a leap (BIG LEAP) of faith on the console. Sega seems like the easiest canidate for me.

It's too bad for the Wii U that most big-named publishers like Activision and EA stepped off. That's really hurting the system since Activision and EA have possibly the largest pools of developers.

Activision, Ea, 2k and Ubisoft are key.

Even thought i would love for Mass Effect 4 to come to the Wii U, I think the EA-Nintendo partership should stay dead like it is, The support of Square Enix, Sega, Capcom, Namco and Konami is what Nintendo should focus on imo.

Acti haven't stepped off.
Did they not? I was sure that they stepped off along with EA.
If not, my mistake.

They didn't even get butthurt. Everyone attributes a quote made by an iOS game developer at indie dev con to be the word from activision themselves, it isn't. It's a mobile app dev with delusions of grandeur spreading rumor haplessly from idle chat that he himself only overheard between two other people who were also unaffiliated with Activision.

If Nintendo feels the need for 3rd Party resources for the Wii U, you'll probably see them coming from the likes of Sega, Capcom, Atlus, Namco Bandai, Square Enix, Tecmo Koei and Platinum Games. The only real Western dev they definitely can count on is Ubisoft, which they already have.
Oh well, business be business.

Nintendo will need more than just SEGA in order to change peoples minds about the WiiU.
As much as i hate to say it, EA does bring in a lot of revenue (maybe not for the best but it will sell).
In my opinion they need:
*Bethesda
*Square Enix
*Level 5
*Konami
This is where it ends

Uh oh... curve ball in-coming... I would say these companies "need" Nintendo more then Nintendo "needs" them. As Arnold would say "I'll be back"

They will realize this in time. Once XBox One sales are bad and Nintendo sales pick up.

That`s a really good question. I`m just not sure if it`s best to have a big studio on your side or a big game on your side.
In the end it all comes down to what games a given console has.
Still, a big company like SE, 2K would make some headlines and help changed some perceptions. Sega would also be a goo bet if they decide to go beyong the obvious games.

It's possible they might need Nintendo, but your right that Nintendo doesn't need them.

A theory that seems very possible.
