EA has announced that its latest soccer video game, FIFA 14, is coming to multiple consoles, including Wii and Nintendo 3DS. Last month, the publisher confirmed that FIFA 14 will not be released on Wii U, due to disappointing sales of FIFA 13, which was a Wii U launch title in November 2012. FIFA 14 launches in North America on September 24th and worldwide on September 27th.

There are a huge number of wii's still out there and I believe they are still outselling the wii u. So it probably makes sense for a wii version. To be honest I don't get why wii development has been abandoned by most developers/publishers. There is probably a lot more money to be made with the wii version than wii u currently and of course wii u owners can also purchase the wii version and play with enhanced visual quality.
