Like the characters from each series:
Mario
Legend of Zelda
Metroid Prime
Etc.

How many players should each video game series have in the game?

I think 4 at most, which lets you have:
Legend of Zelda: Link, Zelda, Shiek, Ganondorf ( or Ghiriham since Ganon is a clone of Falcon)
Mario: Mario, Peach, Luigi, Yoshi

Other series doesn't have to have 4 players, but that can be the max.
Just because I want them to really stick with the classic Nintendo characters, aswell as bringing in newcomers who have gotten praise from games they debuted in.
They spent Brawl on making almost half the roster, being clones of the other players, just quicker and visually different.

Btw, Wii Fitness Trainer. At first I thought she was a horrible choice, but after seeing her in action and her smash ball move, she may be really good!!

Aren't Shiek and Zelda considered one character? Unless you're implying that you think they should be seperate characters?

Though I think that it's a cool idea, Sakurai already announced that the roster is limited (But based on the already 12 characters announced, maybe he changed his mind?) and it would waste roster room (If it really is limited).

I'm saying that Shiek and Zelda should not have seperate spaces on the CS screen. Nintendo should leave it so that Zelda's down+B move transforms her into Shiek, rather than giving her her own space.

Pokemon: Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Jhoto Trainer, NewMewTwo, Zoroark.

Yoshi: Yoshi

Donkey Kong: Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong

Etc Etc you know where am going with this, there is space for everyone.
