There are alot of things you can put on a character, personality, appearance, clothing choice. species.
For me I really want to see another female character besides Samus Aran. But a gothic girl since Nintendo is from Japan, and Gothic is huge in Japan. Something simple, but not sex heavy, kind of like this. But who knows maybe years from now a guy has a creative idea involving a goth girl in a creative game for Nintendo avalable for the Eshop.

If 3rd party characters could enter the nintendo family, i'd want to see nintendo buy out rayman. I don't know, the series just has always felt the best and fitted in the most on nintendo.
But if we're doing 1st party, I want to see a character female character that's has a combination personality of pit and mario, but looking like a animal crossing villager.

Mines would be Ruby Heart from Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.
Even though she really doesn't have a back story, she has always been one of my favorite female video game characters ever! I mean, just look at her character design? Such an awesome pirate chick haha. I'm sure Nintendo could make up some good stories/games with her.
