I don't see what's so hard for Square to just admit that they don't want to put it on the Wii U because they're afraid of not making enough money.
What do you think Nintendo fans would say? They'd be all up in arms ranting about the conspiracy against Nintendo. The best thing is just to shut up and make good games.

Because the Japanese are extremely prideful, and don't want to upset Nintendo (the 3DS is a much more viable platform than the Vita). Western (especially American) companies have no such issues with burning bridges, and prefer the Redmond-developed Xbox.
