I think Nintendo made the correct choice when it comes to storage ... of all the next gen consoles, the Wii U is the easiest to expand ... just put an external drive with its own power source into the Wii U with a USB connector ... can't get any easier than that. It also helped keep the Wii U price down and gives the consumer their choice on if to expand or not ... for example anyone who only buys physical games will probably never need to expand unless they get a lot of virtual console games.
I honestly do not think 10G is a big deal, I expect that most games coming out in the future will be at least 10G but more likely 15G or more moving forward as the games get better looking and more intricate.
I was lucky to have had a 1TB drive laying around and not being used when I got my Wii U ... it now belongs to the Wii U.
I like buying digital copies of games because, in my eyes, they stand the most chance of being able to be played on future generations of consoles ...
I disagree. It was totally the wrong choice. First of all including a higher capacity 2.5" laptop HD would not have increased the cost significantly if at all. Secondly having an external HD for you may be practical but its not so for everyone including me. I neither have the space for it or a spare power outlet either. As buying digital that too is not practical as it is a risk as the games are tied to that specific console. Nintendo should have included a larger capacity HD which also would have had a faster read/write speed as well as tied the games to the user account like Sony and Microsoft have been doing for years. Not to mention the HD in the PS3 and PS4 is easily upgradable anyway. At the end of the day Nintendo is in many ways still in the dark ages with some of their impractical and backward policies.
