The platformer is my favorite genre, but this past generation it seemed to almost disappear except for the Mario and DK games on Wii. I'm thinking particularly of Playstation 3 since I suppose Xbox is not really known for platforming series, though it had a few interesting platformer-ish titles on Xbox Live. Remakes of the Jak & Daxter and Sly Racoon series were produced, but neither of those series saw a new entry. There were a couple ratchet & clank games but those seem as much action oriented as platforming. I like the core of the game to be jumping, getting around obstacles, collecting, etc. Is it going to be the same this coming generation, with Nintendo being the only ones really making platformers anymore? Or are there some games that I've missed that I need to go back and check out?
What happened to platformers this generation (on non-Nintendo consoles)?

Probably because there's nothing to think that's creative for a platformer besides collectathons, but some devs are just too lazy to think what would fit for a new and creative platformer. Its all about the money making cow (First Person Shooters) I heard from multiple people saying shooters are easy to develop.

LIttle big Planet, Rayman origins and indie games seem to be the only platformers last gen that were non nintendo.
Well, I've finally found my Starfox, and I love it.

Because they're considered "kiddie crap", along with everything else that isn't a M for Money FPS, Family Guy knock-off that is somehow worse, and reality TV so forced that it becomes actively unpleasant to watch. I would make a comment about explosion-filled exploitation blockbusters, but they're actually a guilty pleasure for me.
