I know this sounds crazy, believe me, I know. I have been thinking about the Wii U Virtual Console's lack of GCN games and the fact that the Wii U Pro Controller can't really accommodate them. This got me wondering why it seemed as though there were plans way back before the console launched to have GCN games downloadable from the eShop, but no announcements could be made at the time (or now apparently), and that's when it kind of clicked. Nintendo isn't really held up by hardware or legal issues with GCN titles (well, maybe some legal issues for many 3rd party titles) I think they are working on new hardware. A kind of Wii U Classic Controller.

I know what you're thinking! They have the Wii U Pro Controller, it is sufficient. Yes, for the most part, it is. The Pro Controller was designed specifically for use with Wii U and most VC games, but what about games that used pressure sensitive triggers? For that you need something akin the Classic Controller on the Wii. Of course, redesigned for two things; GCN games and N64 games. This would also explain partially why there are no N64 games yet. This Wii U Classic controller would be designed specifically to make playing GCN and N64 games a lot less awkward, since the Classic Controller for the Wii was kind of weird when playing N64 games. I mean... for me, if I'm being 100% honest, I hated the Wii's Classic Controller when playing N64 VC games and I ended up using my GCN controller. Always.

So... I think this is what they're working on. I could be wrong, but it makes a lot of sense...

I see no reason why we need yet another accessory. Wii U pro controller would work just fine, why would Nintendo need another controller just for GCN games?

What games actually needed the pressure sensitivity of the GCN Controller? The clickable triggers are completely different from the pressure sensitivity. It seems that people don't understand this, but 5 seconds worth of experimenting with Melee will make very clear the difference between the two.

Now, if you recall, the L and R buttons controlled your shield in Melee. Clicking it down all the way would result in a powerful shield that wouldn't last very long, while gently pressing it would make a longer-lasting yet weaker shield.

However, that's not the pressure sensetivity. Depending on how much you pressed it down, the more powerful the shield would be until it clicked and became a regular shield. THAT feature would be impossible if it was on Wii U, but being able to change how powerful your shield without clicking it down was usless in a match.

The feature that everyone means when they want GameCube-style triggers are the clickable feature, whoch can be done by two sets of shoulder buttons.

For example, in Super Mario Sunshine, pressing R gently allowed you to move while spraying, while clicking R allowed you to aim. This can be done by making R on the Gamepad/Pro Controller spray while moving, and zR would let you aim (or whatever you prefer, as you can remap buttons anyway).

So for GameCube Virtual Console games (which Reggie only said he would like, not that they have plans to do so) would work perfectly, except for games that absolutely require actual pressure sensetivity, of which I can't think of any.

wiimote, gamepad, pro controller, and now a classic controller? No. Far too many controllers, you'll just end up confusing consumers.

Pretty much this.

Seriously we don't need more accessories. The fact that a Pro controller exists angers me already. There should just be one main controller for a console, if you need a skateboard or guitar that is the only exception. But having a Pro controller is basically saying "Well hey obviously our GamePad isn't good enough to meet everyone's needs so we made a 2nd controller but it isn't bundled with the console." Personally I wish I had a Pro controller to use for most of my games but I refuse to buy it because I'll feel bad tossing my GamePad away in the cabinet somewhere and never using it again.

The Pro Controller was made for multiplayer and the people who don't feel comfortable with the gamepad.

And if you get it you are still gonna use your gamepad for sure.

Well I bought the Commander controller by Nyko because it was a lot cheaper, so problem solved.
