I currently have a Blackberry 9790 from Koodo. To be honest there's really nothing wrong with it, except maybe the screen is a tad small and the browser has a hard time with some websites. I currently still have $97 on my tab that has to be paid off before I can renew.

 

I have the promotional $56/month plan that has unlimited nationwide calling and 2GB of data. I really do NOT want to give that up. That rules out any hone that needs a Tab Large to be affordable.

 

 

I don't really want an iPhone or Android, because I'm boycotting the Apple philosophy and I'm hesitant of Android security and reliability. Don't bother trying to convince me to consider one of those phones

 

That leaves me with the Lumina 520 with Windows Phone 8 and Blackberry Q5 with Blackberry 10. Both OSs and devices I have researched and I think they'll do what I need. the App markets are limited, but I only need a decent Facebook app because everything else is included with the OS. Maybe Jetpack Joyride though...

 

With The Lumina, it would only cost me my Tab and there will be no change to my monthly plan because I can use the tab Small

With the Blackberry, it would also cost me $50 and there will be an additional $5 on my monthly bill to cover the tab medium.

 

I honestly don't know which one I'd prefer. Both are pretty decent handsets. I actually Like the new Windows layout,  I have 8 on my laptop and Would get a Windows RT tablet. BB10 is promising to be a very efficient OS, with the Hub allowing for quick access to all messaging

 

Any thoughts?

There is nothing wrong with Apple's phones.. people just feel its mainstream to have an iPhone, when in reality Apple has a great OS with their phones. 

Since you say you don't want it then, look into a Nokia phone with Windows 8.. I guess. lol.

When I had an android phone, I found I spent more time reflashing the ROMs to get the best experience then actually using the phone. and with iPhone, it works best if you fling yourself fully into the Apple ecosystem, but it's not so great when you find yourself installing iTunes on your PC or having the iTune store shoved into your face all the time.

I had a HTC one and that was a piece of crap it broke with in a month it wasn't my fault either their was a problem with the screen where the whole screen turned into static randomly and also there was a problem with the sim card slot which I guess was a factory error so I do not suggest an HTC phone now I have an Iphone and its okay but I really miss the big screen if that phone didn't break I would have really enjoyed it I liked that I had more control of everything but it wasn't reliable but I've seen and played with the Nokia a little and it actually caught my eye but I decieded not to get it because of the small selection on the app store

First off, I'll start off with a recommendation. The Nexus 4 is arguably the fastest phone out there in terms of real world performance(Touchwiz and sense tend to lag from what I've used them) for the lowest cost. It's significantly cheaper then that of other solid android phones, runs stock Android and comes unlocked. At the moment you can buy a Nexus 4 for around $150 on Koodoo(I just outright bought the phone from them as I'm stuck with Robellus), the same price as the Lumia 520.. It gets Android updates fast, it has a really slick user interface, and for that price range you are getting a Bargain. Plus, it comes unlocked straight of the box so if you decide you're done with Koodo, you can swap to another provider. It's honestly the best android phone I've used in a while(S3/S4 is nice and all, but it feels kind of cheap being all plastic and had loads of bloatware IMO). 

 

If you can, try to ask them if they have a demo unit for the Nexus 4.

 

As for the two phones you have listed in the OP, I'd honestly say go with the Nokia Lumina 520. Windows phone has the behemoth of Microsoft behind it and they now that they've swapped their entire systems to Metro they will try to fight to keep it relevant. It may not have an amazing app store selection to the other 2 but it has a better one then that of Blackberry ATM. Also, it has a bigger screen, something that you mention you mention you want.

 

TL;DR version:

If you want a phone that offers amazing performance at an equal price to that of the others, buy the Nexus 4. If you're deadset on one of those, go with the 520.

All i can say is i like android. I got an ipad and could not do that for a full time phone. The os just isnt what i want it to be. Its cool that they got AAA apps that are built great but alot of simple stuff isnt there and no full control.

 

Never like blackberry stuff so thats just ut before it even starts for me.

 

so im android all thr way. I upgraded from a s2 to a HTC one (m7).

and its great. Very fast and does everything i need it to an more. long battery and speaks are the beat in the world for  phone.

 

Sorry if im not much of help to you but i think the only things worth getting would be the HTC one or maybe an s4

Get that new Samsung Galaxy phone, it looks neat.

 

But if you want a good simple phone for apps, get the iPhone 5, seriously nothing is wrong with apple.

Anyways I went with the Q5.

 

All the reviews saying that it had poor build quality were absolutely unicorn tongue. Yes, it does mostly use plastic, but the build quality is pretty sturdy. I even think the little flappy thing will survive.

 

it'll take a little while to get used to, but so far I'm happy with it. I wish it grouped emails like my Bold did, though.

Actually I think the new Moto X is the fastest android phone in terms of real world performance. Great build quality too. Near stock and great optimization with the software to the hardware, also stock android with Motorola improvements like touchless control, Motorola assist,and active notifications, probably the most amazing Android phone out.
