While Sonic games do typically sell better on Nintendo console/handhelds, it doesn't seem fair for him to disregard Xbox/Playstation players who are fans of the series.Sonic brand manager Aaron Webber believes that the audience for Sonic related titles is on Nintendo platforms, rather than Xbox or PlayStation. Webber says that Sonic titles such as Sonic Colours and Secret Rings have historically performed well on Nintendo systems. Webber concluded by saying that when the company has looked at the overall sales figures for Sonic games they realised that Nintendo platforms is where their audience is.
“If we trace Sonic’s third-party roots all the way back to just after the Dreamcast, we released Sonic Adventure 2: Battle on the GameCube and it did phenomenally well. We think that’s because there was a lot of overlap between the Sonic/Sega and Nintendo crowd at that time, and we just found historically that Sonic performs really, really well on Nintendo platforms. Sonic Colors did great, Sonic and the Black Knight did well and Sonic and Secret Rings did well — all Nintendo. When we look at the numbers, we thought — this is clearly where our audience is.”
Sega says Sonic audience is clearly on Nintendo platforms, not Xbox or PS

You mean the same way pretty much every third party developer disregards Nintendo players? People always complain that Nintendo systems have 'no third party games' yet now there may be a decent series that could make the Nintendo systems their primary platforms and we need to worry about the poor Xbox/Playstation players? Irony, and it's not as if Sega hasn't put out tons of awesome Sonic games on those platforms.

The thing is, half these fanboys who are crying about not getting Sonic on PS/Xbox probably wouldn't even buy it.
I hope this game performs well despite the low install base. It would be cool to see Nintendo and Sega continue this partnership beyond the three exclusives.

Developers will always benefit from skipping platforms that do not bring in much revenue for them. The only difference is that in this case it works to our benefit.

This generation I am planning on buying fewer used games and more third party Wii U games in order to do what little I can to help support this kind of stuff for Nintendo.

Do you see that? THAT is what needs to start happening. The way I look at it is if there is a third party game coming out on this system and you want it and buy it for another system the you have NO right to complain about the third party situation. (Unless of course the game in question is done terribly or missing content. Don't support that crap).
Nintendo gamers wanting more third party support need to show it with their money, not just with what they say online. Don't buy used and don't wait a year to get it at half price.

Meh, people who owned a Wii didn't get to play the PS3/360/PC version of generations. At this point I'd rather they just stay on one platform instead of switching.

Yeah, it was pretty stupid of Sega to screw over the Nintendo fanboys during Sonic's 20th anniversary. The only thing Ninty fans got was a crappy port of Sonic Generations for the 3DS and another Olympic Games. The other systems got the superior version of Sonic Generations which came with a free Sonic 1 game, and an enhanced version of Sonic CD. Plus they got Sonic 4 Ep. 2 a year later even though the first one was released on the Wii (of course, it ended up being mediocre).

Yea, its not like they bombed on the other consoles, but Sega obviously feels good about going exclusive with Nintendo. Nintendo may have struck a really good deal for Sega to do this. Maybe waiving the licensing fees for these exclusives. Lost Worlds is also releasing on the 3DS, so that probably doesnt hurt seeing as how Nintendo pretty much owns the portable market. Sucks for the Sony and Microsoft fanboys, but thats how things go. Its not like Nintendo fans havent felt this pain. We miss plenty of releases.

Same with Rayman games, but Unisoft dosen't see that. Rayman should be a Ninty exclusive series.
I always thought Sonic and Nintendo got along well, but I had no idea how bad Sega treated us sometimes. Hopefully this partnership sticks past the 3 games.

It would be awesome if Nintendo bought out Sega. Don't think they ever will but it would be.
Im like that with third party games on wiiu too. I tell my friends that too when they tell me to rent it lol.

Not any time soon, but in 2 or 3 generations time who knows?

No need to worry about that:
Sonic and the Secret Rings Wii 2.60
Sonic Unleashed Wii 1.99
Sonic Colors Wii 1.50
Sonic and the Black Knight Wii 0.95
Even Black Knight did very well on Wii. So Lost Word will do at least as well!
The GC games also did very well, despite the userbase.

To be fair, the Wii's install base was far larger than the Wii U's.

The statement is probably more true than not...the only problem is a lot of would-be Nintendo fans aren't even on Nintendo's platform at the moment.

Yes, it`s true.
Probably should have posted GC figures as it would provide a better perspective:
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle GC 2001 2.56
Sonic Mega Collection GC 2002 2.05
Sonic Heroes GC 2003 1.60
Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut GC 1.27
Sonic Gems Collection GC 2005 0.42
As you see, only the second collection "bad" but this was towards the end of GC`s life.

Not everyone upgrades their consoles within the first year. I think a lot of people forget that. Personally I think the Wii U overall has had at worst a below average first year. Thinking back, in a lot of ways it reminds me of the PS3's first year. Strangely enough I bought my PS3 back in 2007 at just about the exact same time in that console's life as I did the Wii U, and they share a whole lot of similarities.
