I think Sony's teams give Nintendo a run for their money to be honest. ESP Naughty Dog - those guys are animals.
But Nintendo themselves have a lock on what they are known for and they would have to be rated #1 over everyone. Retro has changed, but with Nintendo's guidance, they are up there as well. Monlithsoft is having to catch up a bit, but they have already shown they've had no problems doing so and they are right up there as well.
I'd give Nintendo the edge.
now if only Zelda and metroid would get here faster!

Nintendo's teams have work to make up because the Wii was so far behind and that put the developers learning curves behind by default. that's why we were seeing so much hiring of new talent. Fresh blood that is up to speed - overseen by seasoned developers that can focus and manage the raw talent.

I just wish the Zelda and Metroid games would get more popular. They're so great they deserve a much larger fanbase. Mario gets all the attention.

i think zelda fanbase is popular and large enough. metroid i think with the upcoming one they need to modernize it and market it the right way. i mean Nintendo has some work on their hands no doubt about it. I just cant wait to see what happens to them and their home console brand in the next year. every time you launch a new console you have to prove your brand and its worth. Sony thought they were invincible withthe launch of ps3 and they learned nope just because you had success on your last console doesnt mean everyone is going to flock to your new one. Nintendo has to pick it up 3D world looks amazing but are they going to give us another drought and lack of marketing in early 2014?

That may partially have something to do with the number of frequency of games produced as well as a different kind of crossover appeal.
If Nintendo can bolster their next gen staff enough, it would be nice to get at least three games of each ip each generation.

I think Nintendo has the best franchises. But it's kind of an unfair decision since I'm naturally more of a Nintendo fan, and I haven't tried a lot of Sony 1st/2nd party stuff (Uncharted, Killzone, Gravity Rush, Last of Us, Ape Escape). But I do plan on trying more Sony 1st party stuff in the future. I've never played a 1st party Microsoft game since I don't own an Xbox or a 360. Since I'm not really interested in FPS games (which eliminates Halo and Gears of War), and Forza isn't my thing. Not sure what Microsoft 1st party games there are beyond those and a few others.
1. Nintendo
2. Sony
3. Microsoft

For me Ratchet & Clank... and that's pretty much it . Sony ditched a lot of their older franchises I liked such as Crash, Spyro, Jak, Sly Cooper, and Ape Escape.
If they had kept their older games like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro then I would probably be playing my PS3 instead of Wii U while waiting on my PS4 pre order.
