Just found this and thought it was pretty cool.

Nice to see a boost even if it's not the biggest, curious to see how it holds up in the next few weeks though

It's good and bad in a sense... goes to show how poor the console was selling though if the increase was that ridiculously high.

VGChartz latest estimate for the UK sales was around 1300 units a week:

http://www.vgchartz....eekly/41546/UK/

If this is true, and the 685% increase is from 1300/week to 9000/week, then the sales have gone from disastrous to bad. Which is a very good thing, of course.

The Wii U sold 20 times more this week, then last weeks in Game Mania (a store in BE/NL)

The price cut and the bundle did what was asked of them and then some more. But when the numbers are so low to being with, you can`t expect the world.

People know now that the games are coming and Zelda was just the beginning. The hype for the bundles and Mario 3D World will keep on pushing the console and next year... bazinga!

685% sounds really good, but if you consider how badly it was doing before it kinda stops sounding so good.

But any lift in sales is good.

If I were one of the developers that shunned Wii U to develop elsewhere then surely now would be an ideal time to come back, no?

What I mean is that between now and late 2014 lots of games will come from Nintendo and sales will jump again. They must realize this and use Nintendo's exclusives to their advantage if "low console sales" were the problem early on.

The console had a 685% increase in sales. I fail to see how that's a bad thing at all, unless you wanted the console to keep up it's average sales of three thousand a week

He just meant that the fact that it could increase by so much makes obvious the incredibly low amount it was selling beforehand. He's not saying that it's bad that it's selling more.

If Wind Waker HD and Pikmin 3 sold that many Wii U's, imagine what Mario 3D World, Wii Fit U, Mario Kart 8, DK Country Tropical Freeze, and Smash Bros will do.

Games sell hardware. 3DS bounced back due to games, the same will happen with Wii U.

Yes, it's funny, though, that the Wii U has a few 1st party games right now, but Nintendo CHOSE to make the less popular games get released for the Wii U first. Why were they working on SMBU when they could have made a 3D Mario in close to the same time? Why did they make NintendoLand when they could have been working on Zelda Wii U? It's as if Nintendo knew they could wait until they got actual competition to launch their much needed software.

The NSMB games are A LOT more popular than 3D Mario, and they hoped Nintendo Land would become the next Wii Sports. Zelda U is not being developed by the same team that developed Nintendo Land either way.

I think the only reason they're releasing games so late is because of how incredibly understaffed and unprepared they were to develop HD games. Waiting until you have competition to release your stuff instead of getting as much market share as soon as possible sounds like a bad business decision.

Also you never want to rush the best. NintendoLand is pretty basic so it can be done a bit quicker than the Mario or new Zelda games.

I was using examples, who knows, the Zelda team probably helped out on Nintendo Land. And the Nintendo Land team could have been utilised to speed up development on the Zelda game, too.

The 2D Mario games were only more popular last gen because Mario hadn't been 2D since the SNES days and when he came back he had no competition (at least GOOD competition), now there's Rayman, which is arguably better than the NSMB series as a whole.

If they did, it probably was exclusively for the Zelda part of the game, and I don't think it was all that straining to develop. Something like that wouldn't put a significant delay on the Zelda game. Either way, if you want to complain about one game slowing down Zelda U, complain about the Wind Waker port.

While I won't disagree that could have played out a part in NSMB's success, that's not quite the reason it's so popular. A lot of people despise 3D Mario's and don't consider them to be true Mario games, since they're so mechanically different to 2D Mario's. 2D Mario's are just more popular with the general population, while 3D Mario's are more 'hardcore'.
