i only used it on the original 3ds because i needed the extra bulk when I played games, imo the xl doesnt need it

So you, like, held the system against the cradle while playing?

When I found out that I didn't need to actually use it to charge the 3ds I never used it again.

It's good if you want a specific place on your nightstand/desk/whatever to put your 3DS.

I do like things organized. And I bought it immediately after seeing it, so I need to stick with my decision.

yes, when it was in the craddel i held it because ineed the bulk for my hands, the craddle was designed in such a way where you could still use all the buttons and features on the 3ds without any issues (first that come in to mind is the l and r buttons and the headphone jack)

yes, its a very good thing, just plugging it straight into the 3ds leaves it very vulnerable to impacts breaking the tiny wewak soldering holding the socket assembly in place, if you are unlucky, just a few times people knock your 3ds down while its charging (accidentally yanking cable etc) and that soldering could snap, leaving you with a 3ds that wont charge. Unless you know how to open it up and resolder it....
