Hey folks.  I bought a $20 eShop card today at Toys R Us and unexpectedly was charged tax.  Then when I used it to buy something I had to pay sales tax again (which I was expecting).  What's the deal?  I thought cards like these weren't charged tax when you get them in store since you'll be taxed when you actually make a purchase??? I would've saved $1.50 by just adding funds with a credit card!

Yeah.. unfortunately, that's the case. These taxes are ridiculous. I just use my card. There is literally no advantage to buying an eshop card.

Ugh, okay well thanks for confirming.  No more eshop cards for me, then

Dispute the tax at the check-out. Obviously.

Toys R Us should not have charged you, but the eShop should have.

There shouldn't have been a tax when you bought the card. You should've questioned that when you bought it.

I guess it depends where you live. The only place where I didn't receive tax was at Toys r Us. Every other place charged me. It just seems like less of a hassle for me to use my card.
