Damn, looks like PS4 not only has a more powerful GPU with faster RAM but according to this benchmark it outperforms Xbox One's CPU too.

Yes they are the exact same CPU's but the only logical explanation could be that PS4 reserves one core for the OS while Xbone reserves two. Or the PS4 CPU is running at 2.0ghz with 2 reserved cores.

Yep it could be. I heard that the xbox one uses a lot of resources for the os with it split screen and stuff.

While the ps4 is just made mainly for gaming. It does just what it needs.

I assume this is for substance designer... Hardly a bench mark. And I most certainly hope thats not for the actual cpu, but just a single core.

This is for procedural texturing, generating textures in real time that arent stored as maps on disc.

Xbox One not next-gen confirmed. Now that it's less powerful it won't get any next-gen games!!!

I've been looking into a lot of things recently, and I must ask:

So what?

I really don't see the significance anymore.  I just don't.  Sure it might be more powerful, but is it enough to create a noticeable difference?  Does it beat PC's now?  What is the significance of this?  Someone tell me, because I think I've reached the point where specs have no significance to me whatsoever.

Well, it clearly shows it gets absolutely devastated by pc.

But again, this is only for allegrorithics subject designer, which is a procedural texturer. The 1 CPU of whatever was tested in that horribly vague graph (1 core i hope) Shows that xbone/ps4's netbook cpu can procedurally generate 12-14Mb of textures.

Its not showing anything else (its barely showing that much) but ps4 can get 2 whopping megabytes more than xbone in procedural textures.

I guess when I asked for the significance, I meant along the lines of, "Is the average gamer going to see a noticeable difference?"   Is this really anything to get worked up about or make a console choice on.  I understand what it means behind the scenes essentially, I just don't think it changes much outside that.

Honestly? I bet its less than nothing.

Procedural texturing, just never caught on because of the fact it requires its own skill and effort to do, and the 'AaaaaAAaAaaaa' publisher houses aint got time for dat when churning out their factory line Homogenous slop. And now that both ms and sony's systems have gigantic ram pools, there is no reason to be smart and trim, when you have the luxery of being lazy and sloppy, and its easier and faster and an entry level skill.

If they DID use it, it would be impossible for a normal human to notice. On average a substance material weighs in at about 19-20kb. Thats a lot of texture tiles when you fill up 12Mb. No way anyone would be able to discern another 2Mb ehile playing a game, its like a needle in a haystack.

Nintendo is pretty much the only major company that actually uses procedural textures. Well, theres shin en, but like i said major...

Both link between worlds and 3dworld use procedurally generated detail maps for bump textures.

that rapes anything the X1 or PS4 can pull off. so unless you want exclusives, i wouldnt get one.

gtx 760 should be around 200-250 about now.

And I'm waiting for TRUE next-gen games, not half arsed ports that barely differ from current gen versions.  The only next-gen looking game I've played so far is SM3DW, lol.

No sig.
