Nintendo shares surge by 11% as China lifts ban on video game consoles.

Surely Nintendo will clean up here as they have the most family friendly consoles? that is one potentially massive market!

I must admit I did not see that one coming. Did Nintendo know all along?

Too early to tell, and I doubt anyone will be shipping consoles over there too soon. It's probably going to take time.

That being said, it's a good chance.

Well it depends on when wii u launches there, I imagine the console that launches there first will get a nice boost. I guess it's just a wait and see, don't treat it like a magical event though, I've seen some people so deluded that they're saying because of this wii u will reach 9 mil in time for ninty to be correct with their sales estimation haha.

Don't forget that China's video game industry is dominated by PC and Smartphone/Tablets, and that a products life cycle there is much, much shorter.

It's not going to be a easy ride for either the Wii U or 3DS, but nevertheless, there's a huge sales potential in that market.

If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done?

Even though the market at China is potentially huge. Think about it this way, video games just getting appealed doesn't mean its an instant success. It could take years for consoles to build up steam there and they could even potentially fail though I doubt that will happen. If anyone were to succeed in China, it'd probably be Nintendo though due to the family nature of people there.

Nintendo has had a share of the limited gaming market in China for a while with the ique and then had Wii in Hong Kong. So they maybe more open to more Nintendo systems like the Wii U.
