You can't use your games you bought on a PS4.
Well, that’s not entirely true either.
All of the PS4 versions of PS3 & Vita games that I already owned were available to me on the PSN store. I also can access all of my messages, trophies and downloaded movies from the PS4, so my account is hardly “worthless". It works exactly as I expected it to, and if the PS3 generation was any indication, we’ll be seeing a lot of PS4 PSN titles appearing with PS3 & Vita versions also included in the price.
Looking into my crystal ball, judging from Sly Cooper and Guacamelee, Sony is moving towards sharing game saves via the cloud on all of their cross-buy titles. I think that further on, if they have a platform that can emulate the PS3 properly, I’d expect to be able to re-download those titles and play them again.
I assume you paid Sony money for the digital copy of the game on your PS3 account.
Yes, and there was never the expectation that I’d be able to play them on any other platform other than the PS3. Read the terms and conditions.
It's a trend. There's no reason to own a PSP because they ported the only good games to PS3, no reason to buy a PS3 because they'll be on PSNow soon, why bother spending $600 when you can wait a few years and get the 2 or 3 "exclusives" on PC via gaikai, when your internet connection will be >5MB because unless you love your current contract and your ISP is such a dick that they'll spite your entire Town because you're not signing a new contract, you'll be able to stream at 720p no problem by then.
They’re not cannibalizing PSP sales because they don’t make the PSP any more. The PS3 is still a very viable option because streaming games is really an undesirable delivery format for games - especially if the net neutrality ruling isn’t overturned.
I think that Sony knows that which is why there’s the distinction between Now and PSN. Streaming is expensive and performs inconsistently (judging from OnLive). Sony has never come out and said that Now was a true backwards compatibility solution, just that we’d be able to stream PS3 games on the PS4.
PSP games (like the PS1 games) have been reworked for PSN and most, if not all of them, are playable on Vita & PS3 for the same price.
So if we’re keeping score, IMO if any gaming account is really worthless, it’s NID. You can’t log on to another machine with it, and anything you buy on it isn’t actually tied to your account - it’s tied to the hardware. Oh and you have to re-buy eShop games on the 3DS and WiiU.
