3 years old is older than the Wii U, let alone an xbox one and a play station 4While I totally agree, the PC race runs on real world communism with the few having most of the power. Sure, GTX 770 and above can out do the consoles, but what about people with 2 or 3 year old PC's? They wouldn't be able to handle the mod anyways. Also, the prices of PC components in any country but the US are stupid high. Canada in particular

Apologies. I meant in 3 years when the next gen systems are (hopefully) really hitting their stride, a computer bought today (or when the Wii U came out) will be struggling to play the newest games (AAA graphic whore types at least). I still think consoles are gamers best buy for the money. I paid 1400 for my system (minus monitor) and yes, it will last me some years, but not 7 that's for sure.

I can play the new games. I fully expect to be able to play the new games until 2017 too.

I've just bought a Gaming PC with an AMD FX 8350 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 graphics card, I dare say I'll have to upgrade my CPU, PSU and GPU within the next 3-4 years.
It would be interesting to see just how much more expensive/cheaper it is to PC game over console gaming.

Precisely why I never have and never will buy a gaming PC. Too much money to build plus upgrading every couple years for multiplats I can play on console albeit having a little less performance.
One big advantage for consoles is being closed system, games always get better and better engines over time and have no leech like Windows sapping away at the hardware (unless you have Xbone lol).

Looks really nice and I will be picking this up having not played the last gen version. For those that have I don't think this new version is a must buy, there could be some specific DS4 touchpad/speaker features and Kinect voice commands.
The lack of AA hurts....
Consoles I own:
Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, PS1, N64, Gamecube, PS2, Dreamcast, Wii, Xbox 360
Handhelds I own:
GBC, GBA, NDS, PSP, 3DS, PS Vita

That's around $1500 canadian in 2011, so 6 years. About what I'm hoping to get out of mine. Still triple the prices of the consoles. Don't get me wrong, it's totally worth it for the PC exclusives (mostly indy games now, all AAA are going console) but I still enjoy the value consoles provide.

As I said, I'm guessing around triple the price. Of course you'll have the "I can buy a top end gaming PC for $400 USD types, but that's just simply not true.

Yup. Devs have years to build games for ONE system and they know the system isn't going to change in the future.

Off topic: I wouldn't mind building a gaming PC, but it feels awfully daunting if you've never built one before. I assume once you get the hang of it, it's super duper easy.
I guess a lot of gamers who don't primarily play on the PC are like me, in that they don't want to get it wrong when it comes to making or getting the right build. They don't want to accidentally have inferior parts, and with most things having tech names, it becomes a confusing mess. That sucks mostly when comparing equipment, because you can easily skip a piece that may be the best buy of them all. Then there is the fact you need to upgrade every now and then if you want to play a game but haven't the appropriate hardware to run it.
But I'll always have Runescape. Always.
On topic: I should be getting TR:DE tomorrow if I'm lucky. Can't wait to play it.
I also wanted to say that I dig the Asian descent looking Lara Croft than the adult Ellie Lara Croft.

The samething could be said about the Wii U.
The WiiU is not £430 and has another angle on gaming that the other two do not have unless a separate device is bought/used.

The Amd chips should do well for the next few years and are very good value, not tried one myself but tempted.

PC's are a higher entry price, but lower game price, and longer lifetime if you're content with the same fidelity as consoles offer in 6 years time.

Further evidence of the gulf in power between Xbone and PS4.
Digital Foundry finds the Xbone version of Tomb Raider drops down to 900p in select cutscenes, "keeping performance consistent during these sequences was a priority for Xbox One" resulting in blurry visuals during that time.
So PS4 runs at a real 1080p with twice the framerate but Xbone runs half the framerate AND must drop the resolution to keep their 30fps.

Yep that PS4 is an amazing console. It's a shame it has the graphical prowess of a low-end PC.

I know. This is what happens when I get a new console. My wallet gets trigger happy and trades places with launch window games.
Except ones that no one should buy like Just Dance and Angry Birds Star Wars.
