We know Nintendo announced SMT x Fire emblem, yet we know nothing about story, gameplay etc but given the success of the latest entry, what do some of you feel is needed in the next entry for it to top awakening?

Yoshi DLC

In all honesty. They always seem to do fine with story. I think they should keep it accessible like they did with Awakening. On Wii U a FE game can play very similar to 3DS.

Strat on bottom action main screen. Kinda how W101 does. Also like to see Online and I never ask for online anything. Going head to head with FE players in strategy would be like chess or checkers.  1on1. Not every online has to be fast paced chaos.

I hope it's not completely based on strategy, as I have no real interest in the FE series...  However, SMT4 recently got me into the SMT series, so I hope for it to be something that would get me interested.

I never touched a strategy game til Fire Emblem Awakening. like SMT4 is welcoming to new fans. It's very accessable to new fans and good for old fans as well. SMT4 and FEA got new fans to the series.  I promise it will spark an interest in the series or at least the genre. I got to playing more and I been working my way into the genre. Enoug where I imported Ash for DS.

As for SMTXFE I think they already confirmed it was just an RPG

I think you are barking up the wrong tree if you are expecting this game to be anything like a fire emblem title.

As for awakening, it was an absolutely fantastic fire emblem, it revolutionized the series visually, making it far more visually interesting, while at the same time allowing the player complete controller over the battle scene animations, including fast forwarding and skipping them, easily, and intuitively. It was the best written fire emblem I have ever played, with by far the best dialog and interactions between characters.

It was also the shortest fire emblem I have ever played. All those wonderful things Awakening knocked out of the ball park took pioneering took their toll on aspects of the end product, like game length. Its standard fare for a pioneering game, which, almost all games used to be, actually, it was why the sequel was almost universally hailed as the best thing ever, as all the ground work had been done, the dues had been paid, and the studio could focus on just making a big great game with everything they wanted in it, and everything they couldnt get into the first one.... And also why it began slipping off afterwards.... Until you had a huge breakthrough that changed everything and made things exciting again (like say, the change to 3d for zelda or mario)

This is where you would need to focus on in awakening. More content, Nintendo tried this with the dlc campaigns, which are fun of course, but these little side stories are no match for an epic sized campaign. This is what the next fire emblem needs, the ground works been laid out, now just focus on making that great, big fire emblem campaign, like sacred stones had for example, which had 3 awakening sized campaigns under different characters from different regions which all came together in the end.
