This issue of Lame Informer published an article listing the top gaming disapointments and put Wii U numero uno which is pure unicorn tongue. With games like Zelda U and X coming around the corner they will be kissing Nintendo's ass. Just watch. Sales don't measure how good a console is by no means. Should have expected it from a magazine owned by a conglomerate

POPULAR
I'm holding this issue of Lame Informer right here, and I'm going to explain why you're wrong.
First of all, yes, as much as we like the console, it did blatantly fail this year. Lackluster games and sales, you already know all about it. A direct quote from the magazine:
"...but the biggest hurdle facing the console is Nintendo's inability to make a convincing argument for why its GamePad is a game-changer."
I totally agree with this, I look at my library of Wii U games and come up blank with why it's a groundbreaking system. You can talk about all you want about how selecting items via touch screen is amazing, but I would much rather just take the extra 1 second with a regular controller. The only giant benefiting factor is off-TV play, and even then I don't use it all that often. I'm not saying it's a bad system and neither is GI, but to anyone that's not a hardcore fan it's just not appealing.
If anything, this says they like and care about Nintendo. They feel the need to criticize what Nintendo is doing, they care about the Wii U.
With games like Zelda U and X coming around the corner they will be kissing Nintendo's ass. Just watch.
Did you even read the headline? This is the top 10 disappointments of 2013. The list isn't taking into account the games in the future.
Should have expected it from a magazine owned by a conglomerate

I tend to agree with you here. It's fun, yes, and as a Nintendo fan I like it, but I understand that it's not like the Wii in the difference it makes. It makes maps and items and menus a breeze, and in-house Nintendo games have come up with clever uses, but it doesn't really rise from clever to brilliant often. It's a good effort but it's not groundbreaking.

I agree/disagree with Game Informer.
Its a "disappointment" because 1) The sales :/ 2) There are few must have titles (Like Super Mario 3D World) 3) Barely any 3rd party support
Its not a "disappointment" because 1)Even though the sales were meh, Wii U is the cheapest console on the market so....you never know 2)Those few must have titles are excellent 3) The Wii U is getting more must have titles in the future (I hate using this excuse but it is true)

this must have title stuff is getting really old. its all a matter of opinion what is must have for me may not be must have for you. I think Pikmin 3 (GOTY for me), W101, Mario 3d world, COD ghost, Splinter cell blacklist, Lego Marvel, Rayman Legends, Twisted Sister, and WWHD were all worthy of a purchase and i am leaving out about 5 good other games worth playing.

I have to agree with game informer. As of today I am disappointed in the Wii U and here's why
Reasons why I am disappoint:
1) not a huge platformer fan and a majority of the "must have games" are platformers. I also recognize that there are other games besides great games that aren't platformers but they still don't warrant a purchase for me
2) Online features if you've used Xbox live and then Nintendo Network you know that Nintendo Network is a little clunky and doesn't have as many features. I'm sure this will change but this is just as of now
3)Gamepad, I thought it would be cool but then realized meh a regular controller would do just fine and the touchscreen isn't that useful IMO

While sales of a console may not be a measure of how good the console may or may not be, it's a measure of how well the consumer has taken to it and well the numbers paint their own picture of how gamers have taken to the Wii U.
At this moment in time a majority of gamers aren't interested in the Wii U that may or may not change depending on the software released, I think it will but the fact remains that 2013 was largely a poor year for the Wii U.
Nintendo have completely wasted a year long head start.

I guess you can say the same thing for either XBone/PS4... Neither owns a majority share of the recently released consoles.
True, maybe they haven't made the best use of the year head start, BUT it looks like the quality is still there. As more titles come out, the system will become more and more compelling. With components dropping in price, I think we'll see some cuts to spur sales. A bad/tough situation but hardly game over as the media have said......especially given their cash position.

I hope you're right and I hope Nintendo's software will change the fortunes of the Wii U in the same way they changed the fortunes of the 3DS.
That said once Sony get their supply and demand situation sorted, I suspect that within a year the PS4 could well have sold more than 20 million units.

I said a year ago that I thought the big mistake with the Wii U is the controller., it was too expensive and for very little effect. They should have come in at a much lower price point and with a beefier hardware spec - it's clear that the controller must have cost a lot of pennies to manufacture.
Nintendo felt they needed a USP when this was not really possible as there was no really good ideas around. They gambled on the controller and it hasn't paid off, now they have an expensive unit to manufacture and little real demand.
It's a shame as if they had went for a simpler, cheaper, more powerful console then they could have got a lot of sales from people who would have bought a Wii U just to play Zelda/Mario as well as buying a Xbox One/PS4.
$149-199 is impulse purchase territory; $299 is not.

I think with components dropping in price, it might see this level in the next year or year and a half. Wouldn't surprise me to see it drop another $50 by Sept. this year.

Aren't Nintendo already losing money with the Wii U? Another price drop would just incur more losses surely?

Hard to tell..... That could very well be the case, or maybe they see a slow down as well b/c most people who really wanted a PS4/XBone already have one.....
Based on 3ds sales, I think there's still a fair number of folks who are Nintendo fans and have been holding out for lower prices and games like Smash, Mario, DKTF and a new Zelda.
I hope you're right and I hope Nintendo's software will change the fortunes of the Wii U in the same way they changed the fortunes of the 3DS.

Fun boring story. When I was a manager at carpstop in 2006. The regional manager made us carry that POS mag everywhere in the store. No putting it in your pocket no setting it down at all except for bathroom breaks and lunch until it was sold. When you sold the mag you had to pick up another. yes this means working the register holding a mag, organizing the walls with mag in hand. testing systems with mag in hand. Not ead that mag since I quit. It was a POS then and sure it still is. Oh and side bonus did not quit. Just did office space. Just stopped showing up. Not been in the store since. GS is one giant chain of troll stores. They throw out good strat guides by tearing them up. Throw away games and cases..rare..common doesn't matter.
Gotten to the point you just can't be surprised anymore. GS is number 1 at something. Turnover. #1 in turnovers in the US.

Not if memory, chip prices, screens are coming down in price- plus since they sell so much software at a premium price, they can make that up later anyway.
