Just out of curiosity, why would you need more than one PS3/PS4/PSP/Vita linked to one account?

I will have a PS4 at some point and guess I can't take my PSP online anymore as I have a Vita as well and a PS3. I hope it does not mean at some point they decide that when I have a PS4 my PS3 is gimped.

There are people who do have more then one PS4 or PS3 at home or in more then one location. Its probably not very common but it can be the case.
Eh...yeah, I guess that's a factor, but it doesn't seem that big of a deal.

So, I was referencing the article again because I actually needed to pass this information to someone else.
You may only have 2 PS* consoles connected to an account at the same time.
However, you may have a third Portable PS* console (PSP or PSV) linked to the account if you wish, as of last December.
That's up to 2 consoles(can be handhelds also), and 1 handheld per account.
Completely different to the setup with NNID's where you can use your ID on both a 3DS and a Wii U.
That makes it sound like up to three connections can be made to a single account, but I actually went through the article.
This maintenance will increase the number of devices that can be activated by an account as a portable gaming device. This means that you can now activate up to three portable gaming devices (PSP (PlayStation Portable) and PlayStation Vita) on your SEN account.
Which means you can have up to three portable devices in addition to home consoles. Old article, but I looked at it and got confused. Anyway, got what I was looking for.
