do you guys not understand what generation we are entering. i want my Wii U games to look the part that they are starting a new gen. gameplay is crucial in a game but.... great visual need to be just as important "IF" they can be achieved.

Yes, I understand the generation we're entering.
Great visuals are no where near as important as the gameplay. Yes, they're important. But you saying that they're just as important as saying one couldn't work without the other. Gameplay works without great visuals (but not graphics themselves, as it would be a black screen.) but great visuals do NOT work without gameplay.

I can understand what the OP means here. I'm often disappointed when I see a game (usually on a Nintendo console) which doesn't look as good as it could do. One example of this is FIFA 12 3DS, which could have looked much better. PES 2011 3D is much more visually appealing than FIFA and that was released as a launch title. EA could definitely have made more of an effort in my opinion. A more recent example is F1 2011 for the 3DS. This is a game I've been looking forward to since its announcement, but the screenshots are slightly disappointing:

Like with FIFA, I think that the developers, in this case Sumo Digital, could have done a better job with the graphics, although it may look better in reality. (That said I will still be buying this game on Friday, being a huge Formula 1 fan.) Although great graphics don't make a game, they are pretty important these days (especially in games like FIFA and F1 which aim to be realistic) and bad graphics can detract from the enjoyment of a game.

don't believe so at all. all i said is a developers should take advantage of the hardware and make the graphics as good as possible. then everyone started saying oh lets not sacrifice gameplay or audio. never brought up those things... this was strictly about graphical presentation. i believe because nintendo isn't a oh look we have the best looking game company... developers for their console don't feel the need to try and push graphics on their console. i thought it was worded good in the OP... people just to close minded to get it.

Err... Hardware is shared and limited. While the graphic hardware does have it's own processor in the GPU, graphics still require CPU, HDD space/Disk space and, most importantly, development time and resources. A LOT of resources.

Therefore it's very easy to point out to someone who expects all graphics to be outstanding that, when it comes to games on a budget, graphics should be the first to go. Pushing the graphical capabilities of a console to the limit also means pushing everything else to the side, and as many games and movies before have shown, that is usually not a good thing. Also, they use up a LOT of company resources.

Did I mention that graphics use up A HECK of a LOT of company resources?

(Laziness, on the other hand, is a different story. If a developer pumps out a game with clearly terrible graphics that was obviously made for a quick buck... Well, just avoid those.)

i said in the first post i know there are other factors that play a part. but for those that have the money that can develop or modify an engine to take advantage of what the console can do they should do it.

Much more clear, and I agree 98% :)
