The Wii U, from a technical standpoint, is a "powerhouse," Donkey Kong and Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios believes. Speaking with GameSpot editor Peter Brown recently, Retro Studios president and CEO Michael Kelbaugh said developers shouldn't brush the console aside over fears that it's under-powered.

"Unfortunately, the perception is that it's not a very powerful machine," Kelbaugh said about the Wii U. "That's just not true. It's a powerhouse. It's more than adequate to make great games on."

90% a new Metroid prime I say.

Wow. He said "powerhouse..."

Wondering if he means that in terms of comparing to the severely, horribly, handicapped and outdated wii (which was outdated on day 1) or in terms of console gaming today.

DK sure looks amazing for a platformer.

You just know they're going to kill it with Metroid. That kind of attention to detail in a Metroid FPS GAME? Yes please. Also, wonder how long they've been working on this new game with their swollen staff numbers...

So looking forward to seeing an apples to apples comparison from killer wii u games to the competition.

Interesting quote about polygon counts too...

Wonder just how many this thing can push.

The wii's gpu was generations ahead of the x1 and ps4 gpu.

Last I checked, everyone knew the wii sold the most consoles.

1) Doesn't make it the better console.

Don't think the wii's in folks' homes had as many games purchased for them as the 360s did either.

The wii was horribly, embarrassingly underpowered.

2) preaching to the choir. Wii u is quite capable. Also seems that ms took a page from the wii u book with the x1 architecture.

The wii's gpu was generations ahead of the x1 and ps4 gpu.

Wow. That must be some medication..

Wiiu has a ton of potential and I really hope Nintendo can demonstrate what it can do. Seriously the wii was really underpowered and really outside of 1st and 2nd party games the system was really just collecting dust but the games I did like were fantastic like Twilight Princess, Galaxy 1n2, Metroid prime3, Xenoblade, and Donkey Kong (there's more but these to me where the best). Again was the wii my favorite system or best from last gen, no, but it wasn't without good games.

Now looking at the wiiu if Nintendo can produce the caliber of said games with the power of this new system I would fall in love with the wiiu simply because those very games were as good as many Xbox360/ps3 titles and they were working with extremely weak console compared to that of its contemporaries.

I see a lot of people saying that the two statements that the Wii U is "a powerhouse" and "more than adequate to make good games on" contradict each other... How on earth???

Let's assign these statements to numbers... If "powerhouse" is 10, and "adequate" is 5, then can't "more than adequate" be anything above "adequate"?

lol sorry about that... I just can't stand it when people make logical errors online. xD
