While I don't know the ammount of time, I'm going to bet that it will be at least 5 years, if only because gaming needs to get it's act together. One of the things holding gaming back from getting positive reception is minors playing games like Call of Duty. Parent's buy it being idiots, then whine because it has blood. If my memory serves correctly, Film, Music, And books didn't go through this.

Also, kill Fox News. They are to blame for 90% of bad gaming press.

Games that refuse to use Gameplay effectively to do anything are like films that refuse to use cinematography in film to do anything.

Everything N said. Parents need to be educated about following ratings on the box. My mom and dad did it why can't others do it too. Also people need to realise that if a person is more aggressive they need to pay attention as to every aspect of the person. I have to say 5-10 years but the Wii, kinect, ps move has helped out a lot so it may be sooner.

Honestly? 15-20 Years.

...mainly because people are idiots, and I don't see that changing very fast.

I thought the population in general saw gaming positively already...Be it through (for lack of a better word) casual games on facebook...However if you are talking about the whole violent videogames debate, it will never be accepted, not until the age ratings on the cases are actually enforced by the retailers and parents obide by these age restrictions also...It's all fair and well a parent blaming a violent game on a kids behaviour, it's easy...However if they really didn't want their kids playing these sorts of games, they should not buy the children the game and also know how to restrict the console for if the off chance they decide to borrow the game from one of their friends...

Of course I am only looking at the from the extreme of...Kid does something wrong/Parent blames video game angle.

Honestly don't know, it will probably take a lot considering people like Laura still exist.

"This girl wants to kill everyone that has made her feel bad, it's all obviously videogames fault!"

That actually took place in one of her episodes, made me head-desk.... Hard.

I say a short 2-5 years. The baby boom will start to die off then (It's cruel, but true!), and SNES-N64 gamers who have recently become parents will start to introduce their kids to games, therefore increasing the ratio of people who enjoy them, people who are fine with them and people who aren't.

To reach a fully satisfactory ratio, however, it will take 5-10 years, when the GCN/PS2 gamers start to have families.

*Note: I'm using the age of 12-18 to define what generation of gamers a person is considered part of.*

I'd say 2 to 5 years, but I'm a very optimistic person and doubt it'll be like that. With the popularity FPS's have, how hard it's for new-comers to start gaming and how same gamers act... I'm not sure if it'll ever be looked at positively...

I'd say about 10 - 15 years. Why? Because in this generation, all kids care about is graphics. They'd say - "Wow, that game sucks! Look how bad those graphics are!" It's so revolting, really, I hate the new gamers today. They disgust me.

I think that people's acceptance depends on the game. I pretty sure games like Mario are mostly accepted all ready. It might worry me a little bit if controversial games with lots of violence or some such were completely accepted by everyone. That would mean that no one cares at all. There acceptance would increase acceptably though if the ratings were followed and kids didn't play them.

I give it at least 5 years, or even 3, depending how things turn out in the future. Gaming has become more accepted into the cultural landscape (or at least American) than I ever seen in the past. Trust me, over a decade ago, after the Columbine incident, it was a frustrating and a dark time to be a gamer, as I had to defend my hobby from every adult who had the mentality that before gaming, the world was a happy place, with rainbow skies, shining meadows, and chocolate rivers where puppies and children laugh and dance with gumdrop smiles. But now, I'm seeing various media mentioning games like Halo, Grand Theft Auto, and Call of Duty in a more positive light than ever before. You'll have the occasional moral crusader or completely misguided politicians like Senator Leland Yee decry gaming to be "harmful" to our children, but the ones who grew up during the Gen-X era are superseding the older generation, so we will be seeing more people who are well-informed about gaming.

However, just because the general population views gaming positively, doesn't mean they are incredibly astute about it. Popularity denotes neither good nor bad. The general mass, for the most part, are mindless. Case in point: Justin Bieber.

I voted for 5-10 years... but I really think it will be even longer than that for people to see games aren't all that bad. It's really games with violence that people have the big problem. If we have less people like Jack Thompson (an anti-video game activist) in this world we could definitely see gaming viewed more positively.

I fear it will never happen.

There are always the people who think gaming is bad for you.
