If you’re waiting for Google to release the Nexus 6, notorious smartphone leaker Evleaks has some potentially bad news for you. In a pair of cryptic tweets, the insider suggested that Google will abandon its Nexus line of devices in favor of an Android Silver program.

To be fair, this particular rumor has been making its way around the mill for months now, but Evleaks’ latest tweets lend further credence to it.

The Information reported in April that Android Silver will serve as a program for top Android smartphones that adhere to certain requirements, such as limited pre-installed apps and timely software updates. Google would then offer to help pay for advertising and in-store placements for devices and partners in the program.

Please no.

That's disappointing, the Nexus 7 is a great little tablet, and is a heck of a lot less expensive than an ipad. If this is true it'll be sad to see the entire line go, since it had so much potential.

Nexus Phones are actually reallly great. I hope that this is just a false rumor. Tired of Galaxys and Iphones.

I'm calling BS on this. I haven't followed the rumors since the first time I saw the, But with the Nexus line getting more popular with consumers, it'll be stupid for Google to get rid of the line.

Heres what I think of the Android Silver program:

1) Nexus will stay as the primary developer device, possibly accessible by consumers.

2) GPE will go.

3) Android Silver will be a program to increase Stock androids presence in the general market.

4) It will hold tougher guidelines for newer devices.

My understanding is that the purpose of the Nexus line is to have a flagship not loaded with bloatware, so people could try android as it is intended to be. With manufacturers being forced to reign in their defilement of the OS, the Nexus line is no longer as necessary.

Google going full bore with the Microsoft model of the 1990s.

Googles better off as a software company. Even though that's not what they really are.

And after selling off moto, hardware makes zero sense.

Leave htc and samsung to fight the uphill hardware battle against Apple.

Googles stock has taken enough of a beating from their core business declining. They are going to have to cut pet projects and refocus.

Google is an ad sales company that has had nearly a free ride in the stock market. That has enabled them to do many projects without concern of actually profiting from those projects. It's been fun. But we may be entering a new season as far as google is concerned.

Until maybe the nexus 4 or even kinda the galaxy nexus, they never were indented as a flagship devive . Yes were meant to show off stock android, but they were more developer models than anything. A base model to develop for.
