Hey everyone, I just watched the new Godzilla a few days ago, and it was rlly good. Anyone else seen it or watched any of the classics recently to get pumped for this one?

I honestly wasn't all too bothered with the human focus and lack of Godzilla, most of the original movies were like that, but I agree it would have been cool to see a bit more fighting that wasn't cut away from.

Exactly, this film was true to the originals and wasn't just a cgi-fest of monster fights (go watch Pacific Rim if you want that).
People have lost the appreciation for suspense these days. Look at classics like Jaws and Alien, it's the suspense and delayed gratification that makes these films great.

Other examples are Jaws, Aliens, Heat, The Dark Knight, heck even Cloverfield(not much of a fan of the film) handled its action better. The moment when the survivors go into the subway and the rockets are fired, causing the monster to scream and destroy the city was some good stuff. I feel that Godzilla never gave me that build up to is action, so it just felt flat.

i think it was overhyped. i had too high of expectations going in and left disappointed.

The problem with comparing this to jaws and alien is that the humans are actually relevant in those. They have a role that affects the outcome. The humans in this have zero point. They're just bystanders in this over the top fight.

THAT WAS AWESOME!
Ok yeah two main characters not so hot in acting but everything else was spot on. True love letter to toho, Oh and the finishing well won't say it but that was freaking amazing. Sequel is on the works and looking forward to it

If there was no dramatic element with the humans it would just be a two hour film of Godzilla fighting and destroying the city.
It doesn't matter if the human story is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, it gives the film a touching dramatic element to go with the action and as I said it builds tension.

It was totally relevant. Godzilla when made was about man creating the bomb (you know not long after Hiroshima) and nature responding in the form of Godzilla. Nature vs technology and Mans arrogance and ignorance vs forces of nature and realizing they are at the mercy of it. That is exactly what this film did. The human element is crucial. This is not the 70's/80's films where it was space robots with power ranger types facing Godzilla. This film is the original idea put in a modern setting with modern effects with an old but very important theme.

They nailed Godzillas design and his special ability is awesomely done. Especially the way he uses it at a certain crucial point which I won't spoil because it so awesome and so alpha, that the entire theater broke out in cheer and applause. Lol
Worth a double take. Definitely getting on blu-ray when it's available. Makes sense they'd go with a sequel. It's a rampant success.

I thought the name of the film was Godzilla, not spend your time with the most endearing boring people on earth with poor acting skills
