I don't find this to be a rip off/expensive at all actually.
While I wouldn't use this because I like to have a physical copy of games, this is a good step for options for the players.

You can outright buy those games for $2 on steam
Adventure time - $24
Saint Row 3 - $20
Alpha Protocol - $8
This is during the summer sale. Also Steam games have always been cheapest.
Well, I've finally found my Starfox, and I love it.

I got saints row 3 last december form the store 14$

Spend $6-8 on a game i was only going to play for a week anyway? Why is this a bad thing, it means I can spend less money for something I may have wanted to complete and sell again.
Because the majority of these games can be bought used for a lot better bargains than are being offered here, you don't have to download the game, and you can always resell the physical copy.
For example, Final Fantasy 13-2 is $30 for 90 days of rental...or $20 to buy outright digitally. Or less than $15 to walk into a GameStop to buy a physical copy.
The post above was certified to be simply smashing by the Wii U Forum Staff.

Saint Row 3 - $20
Alpha Protocol - $8

Judging by the mixed bag here I'd say they hit the price point rather well. There is a market for this service, on demand availability sometimes comes at a premium.
The 4hr rental looks a bit steep, and not for me, but I'm of the opinion those are simply there to make the longer period rentals look more attractive.

That is horrifying … I really can't stand the direction gaming/entertainment is moving. It's like we're supposed to be happy just renting content and paying through the nose for the privilege.

Yeah.....no.
I swear Sony has good ideas but they're still under the impression this is the 90s and that they can charge a premium for their name. A streaming service charge per title is nuts. Netflix is a flat rate regardless of how much you use it, I see no reason why this should be any different.
This is one thing you and me can agree on lol. The way Sony are charging people for ps now is mad. PS Now was suppose to be a alternate way to play ps3 games in any different way but it seems a lot cheaper to buy a used ps3 and used games. I hate to say this but it will hurt them in the long run. Also looking at the price ranging, it's really confusing and I don't understand how they work the prices of that way.

why in God's name would you link that 'thing'? Don't encourage him.
On topic: Sony still believes that their name alone gives them the right to charge a premium for their products. Unfortunately, the rest of the world has more than caught up and has lower prices. Sony needs to make a good product, sell it for a competitive price and stop assuming that people still gaf that they're Sony.
