Nintendo have continued their quiet campaign to keep firm grip of the Eternal Darkness trademark, following last June’s re-filing comes a request of a time extension.

The last time the Eternal Darkness trademark hit the headlines, was June 2013 when Nintendo of America refiled the trademark which featured updated contents such as “downloadable electronic game programs” and “downloadable electronic game software” hinting that a eShop release was on the cards for this cult-classic GameCube game. It emerged today that Nintendo has now sent a request for an “extension of time to file a statement of use” meaning that while they may not be currently working on a project they wish to keep of the trademark for a later date.

The original developers behind the game left the original studio Silicon Knights to launch a new company called Precursor Games. Their first project was set to be a “spiritual successor” to Eternal Darkness, built using CryEngine 3 exclusively for Wii U & PC. The company launched two separate crowd-funding campaigns, but sadly both failed to raise the required funds. The team are currently still working on bringing the game to market, but in what format remains to be seen.

Hope not. Game is woefully outdated.

Why would you hope they aren't getting a pretty good looking game? Maybe you might not think it looked good, but I thought it looked good.

The game was just super early in development and only failed because of the mistrust in Dennis Dyack otherwise likely would have been funded. It had a lot of promise.

Because "pretty good looking" doesnt describe the game.

"Gamecube Plus" is what it looks like.

Sure you thought it looked good... Compared to PS2...

Using old and busted assets from the original development admittedly. And the models... Just no.

The LAST thing the Wii U needs right now is another old tech game. After Mario 3D World, DKCTF, and MK8 in succession, people are finally waking up to how great the Wii U is.

Fun games that are coded well and look amazing are where its at.

Shadow of the Eternals is crap that some fat guy wanted to foist onto Wii U owners at the beginning to capitalize on hype.

Minimum effort.

Heres hoping nintendo builds a brand new, top notch, worthy successor. And keeps dyacks steaming pile far away.

Well I disagee,

The game has some pretty impressive lighting effects, the game looks way more than just "Gamecube plus".

I even find it ridiculous that you said, "Hope not", especially considering how the Wii U could use any game it gets at this point. Games like ZombiU, Bayonetta 2, Devils Third, Fatal Frame and Shadow of the Eternals are exclusives Nintendo needs to get hardcore gamers to buy a Wii U. This is a game that would only further add to that list. Considering how the game seemed pretty early in development, the game could only look better over time.

It wasn't because of Dyack. Precursor Games went through a lot of crap when McCulloch was arrested for child porn charges, so that ultimately affected their Kickstarter campaigns that promoted the making of Shadow of the Eternals, as in fans turning liberal and thinking "Wow, I don't want to donate money to a company that had a pedophile on staff." Even though Precursor severed all ties with McCulloch the damage was already done.

This is why you don't see a lot of people wanting another sequel, due to the above fact and Precursor being a relatively uninteresting company to begin with. TBH, when Silicon Knights sued Epic they dug their own grave. They started an unneccessary "war" with them, they paid the price.

They were all a problem Dyack also insulted people before Too Human came out and did a Phil Fish before Phil Fish on forums and insulted and mocked about every possible customer. Basically saying how his game will be great and anyone can suck it who disagrees.

Actually that video reinforces the GameCube level of graphics. It's pretty bad.

Yes the models are more 360 era. But around low to mod tier. And the textures done suit them well.

And the lighting is impressive... Again... For a ps2 era game. Fire animations are decent. But that's not actual lighting.

Textures are not too great mostly. The occasional repeating pattern looks good. and effects are old.

If you like it, great. But the reality is that it doesn't look good by today's standards and it should probably go away in favor of a true, wii u worthy Eternal Darkness sequel.

The premise is exciting in SOTE but the execution is rather lame.

And this doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as bayo2
