Nintendo is holding another tournament:
The Super Smash Bros. tournament that was held at E3 was the first ever Nintendo-sponsored Super Smash Bros. tournament and Nintendo did the same thing again at the San Diego Comic-Con for the Nintendo 3DS version of the game. Now it looks like Nintendo will be repeating that success in marketing by offering a Super Smash Bros. tournament for Gamescom attendees.
Currently Nintendo is looking for a German host for the tournament, so if you’re interested you should check out this page for more information. According to the post, Nintendo will be offering those chosen for commentator positions a copy of the game on both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, as well as their choice of three Amiibo figurines once they’re available for launch. For those who will be attending Gamescom to check out everything the company has to offer, you’ll be able to participate in the tournament!

and Sony will drop some bombs too!
If you’re hoping Sony will take Gamescom seriously this year, you have nothing to worry about.
Sony did well at E3, and appears to be going just as big for Gamescom, Europe’s E3 equivalent. Gaming insider Tidux posted the following on Twitter:
#Gamescom ranks almost as high as #E3 internally at #Sony, #Gamescom will be the most important Games Convention soon. #PS4
Sony debuted LittleBigPlanet 3, a re-release of Grim Fandango, From Software’s Bloodborne, and even new footage of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End at E3 this year. That’s not even including the third-party games which took up most of its press conference. If Gamescom is even half as good, it’ll be a great success.
Related: Bloodborne Playable at Gamescom 2014Sony’s game line-up for Gamescom shows that it’s putting money where its mouth is. Big games including Driveclub, The Order: 1886, and even Bloodborne will be on the show floor. If you’re a spectator, you’ll have plenty of new gameplay to check out. If you’re attending, you’ll have more to play than time permits.
As you might suspect, big announcements will be made during Sony’s Gamescom press conference. Sony has a few European first-party studios, including Media Molecule, that have unknown projects in the works. You can bet that the PS4 roster is about to get a few great additions.
