Takahashi on X: "Vehicles are called Dolls. They are 5 Times larger than a person. So to get the same feel as Xenoblade Chronicles, the map would need to be 5 times bigger. The game world in X is in fact even bigger than that."

So, what size are we talking about? I never played Xenoblade Chronicles, so I have no idea. I love me some big ass beautifull worlds to explore, so I can't wait. Not to mention, the Dolls are just awesome.

Xenoblade was bigger than Skyrim. XB is maybe 1X larger than Skyrim.
So think of something maybe about 6X larger than Skyrim.

Xenoblade... Is atypical in its design, so its very, very hard to measure.
I actually used to have acess to a project where we did a pretty in depth mapping of Xenoblades world, to a fairly accurate size of all maps combined... But dont remember where it all went.
But assuming one unit in the Game world is a meter (and then converting the end result to miles for an easier comparison to other game maps), we are looking at, all traversable areas combined, including all the different vertical layers of levels, and knowing you have over 20 areas ranging from a bit below to around 1 square mile, and several fairly large areas with a few square miles (Good thing your characters can be made to run up to 25 miles an hour...) an area considerably larger than the playable area of skyrim (16 square miles), but not as large as the official total gta5 of 49 Square miles, but almost comparable to Gta5's total playable area (Including underwater, since xenoblade is also layered) of about 30 square miles.

In edge issue 271:

WOW! I just saw a clip you posted of the first game and I can tell that's HUGE.

CD Projekt Developers of Witcher 3 have gone on record saying the game is 20% larger than Skyrim. That's big. Xenoblade Chronicles X dwarfs that easily. Skyrim is a CoD map next to XBX.

I thought they said 2 of their areas combined were 53 square miles? That would be over 3x skyrim. All I have are gamz girnoliz 'reports' from google though, can you link me to the official statement?

Thanks, makes sense why I couldnt find that one now.
That IS quite the discrepency.

I... Am under the impression the game simply got much much, much larger than expected in that early interview, which was when they didnt even what really the new systems were going to be back then.
So I am pretty sure the witcher 3 is going to be much larger than the early estimate of 20% bigger than skyrim.
Still. X is most certainly not going to be a slouch either. Its going to be very exciting for me to see which of these games will end up bigger. Witcher 3 will be easy to figure out... As the information will likely be disclosed. But I suspect X will be more mysterious and challenging to figure out... Which I will absolutely love scaling and measuring.
