I looked through the various leaks and they almost all say the new 3DS will have double the RAM, from 128MB to 256MB, the same GPU, and either 2x the clock speed or 2x the cores - this is the only thing they disagree on. It's also said that the new 3DS will have an extra 4MB of special RAM that they think might be used for video RAM, which would boost it from 6MB to 10MB, giving you an actual graphics boost without ever touching the GPU.

Either way, I think these specs are just about correct given the severe loading time decrease reported about the new 3DS. Should these new specs be correct, I can easily see in-game performance being 50% better over the old 3DS.

One of the several specs reports: http://www.rllmukfor...-spec-revealed.

This thread has some good discussion regarding specs and such

When the New 3DS comes here, the biggest thing I see myself taking advantage of is browsing and MiiVerse. Currently it's a bit of a pain cause it's quite slow so the increased speeds will be similar to viewing MiiVerse on the Wii U. Also the improved 3D seems to be quite a great thing according to many and the extra controls (c stick) for Monster Hunter will be a nice addition. Icing on the cake is Xenoblade and other titles in the future that take advantage of the new hardware.

Couple of people said in that thread the specs were doubtful because they were too good to be true. But also, you can't just pull the reported 10x+ improvements from magic. I'm pretty sure you would need twice the RAM and an increased CPU.

That thread started right when the new 3ds was announced, so rumors and doubt were in full force. But then the official spec sheet from Nintendo was retrieved and it shows the upped cpu speed and additional RAM and VRAM

Could you link me to that official spec sheet?

Don't have time to search for it, it may not have been "official" or it was added too. The pdf is in the previous link but the supported titles seem fishy. The actual specs themselves though seem pretty accurate. Xenoblade wouldn't just need a faster CPU but RAM too, same would go for the OS as a whole is much faster from downloads to Miiverse etc.

Ah. Well the GPU speed of the original is wrong in that document. Which causes some to doubt it's official. But it still might turn out to be credible information, I don't know.

My case is more for the various reports and leaks circulating the internet, such as the one I linked to.

It's frustrating there isn't any teardown of the new 3ds yet... it's already out in Japan and coming to Australia this month. Sucks, we may have to wait until it releases in NA for someone to figure out the specs. The CPU speed doubling seems adequate given the test videos of loading times, doubling of the RAM makes sense and VRAM too. GPU , I dunno.

Well, I don't think there's any information to say the GPU itself has been improved. My guess is that Nintendo was being smart and realized the GPU wasn't the bottleneck. For all we know, doubling the GPU could have made less than a 50% speed improvement even.

Im pretty sure it is a doubling of the fcram, a cpu clock increase, and increase in the vram (should help 3d mode framerates considerably), though I dont think the ram increase was too much of a factor in xenoblades specific case considering the og 3ds has 128Mb fcram to wii's 86Mb total combined ram. I think Xenoblade is mostly a case of cpu bottlenecking. Too many draw calls, simultaneous ai scripts all doing their daily routine, executables like the weather routines that had to be selected and run to start weather changes, and the ai scripts that coincided.

Coupled with either a better battery, or a die shrink, or both to mitigate and even improve battery life despite the beefier cpu.
