President of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime stated in a recent interview that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is setting system records. The pre-order sales for Smash Bros. have already surpassed those of Mario Kart 8, with still over a week to go until the release of the game.

“The launch of Mario Kart 8 has essentially doubled our Wii U sales year-on-year. Presales for Smash are stronger than the presales for Kart. So our expectation is that the sell-through for Smash is going to be very strong, certainly on par with what we saw with Mario Kart 8. We think the impact on hardware will be similarly dramatic.”

Do you see Smash Bros. being the game that gets the Wii U over the hump? Let us know in the comments below.

It will be interesting to see sales numbers from now till January. Mario Kart 8 surely will pick up in sales for the holiday and SMASH is literally SMASHING it.

If there's one thing Wii U needs is smashing sales this holiday!

With the more recent amiibo commercials to back it up, i hope Wii U flies off the shelves.

Sales update!

Super Smash Bros. sells 490k in three days to become fastest selling Wii U game

We knew there was a demand for Smash, but the recent sales numbers announced by Nintendo have been overwhelmingly positive for the company in the United States. According to a recent memo, Super Smash Bros. has dethroned Mario Kart 8 as the best selling Wii U game of all time, with 490k copies sold in the United States in just three days.

The game has not released in Europe yet, so Nintendo still has another market that will likely be chomping at the bit to get their hands on the latest Smash. With sales of nearly half a million in only three days, Nintendo is obviously pleased with the title’s performance, as marketing executive Scott Moffit teased that Nintendo still has some surprises in store for fans this holiday season.
