sonic-lost-world-656x369.jpg

There’s been a lot of talk over the past few weeks about SEGA’s shift in development. The company now intends to focus on PC and mobile as opposed to traditional gaming systems. However, that doesn’t mean SEGA is stopping console development entirely – especially when it comes to Sonic.

Japanese outlet 4Gamer recently interviewed Takashi Iizuka, head of Sonic Team. In one question, 4Gamer asks if SEGA is transitioning Sonic into a smartphone franchise.

Iizuka confirms that this isn’t the case. With the recently released Sonic Runners, SEGA simply felt that mobile was the most suitable platform for the game. Iizuka added, “Personally, I don’t plan to stop Sonic for home-video game consoles.”

So there you have it! We should eventually hear about another Sonic game for consoles. Let’s just hope it isn’t as disappointing as Sonic Boom.

Thanks to Mii for the tip.

Hopefully not more console exclusives. I want more Sonic on PC.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

I've seen some comments on twitter where Sega are being called sellouts for abandoning consoles. What do you expect them to do with the situation that they're in? I think it's a bit harsh.

They need to find better developers for the games. I'm not saying that Nintendo should buy the franchise, just hire better developers.

Sonic is just that annoying character that needs to go away, for good. All the games in recent history are terrible and I get bored seeing his stupid face! I hate him that much, sonic is my training dummy in Smash.

That's great news.

Just hope the next Sonic game is better than Boom and Lost Worlds (this one had it's good moments).

NSMB series is worse, Those are seriously terrible games. Hell Sonic 06 is better than NSMB series. Sonic 06 is a terrible game but an unfinished one. Had it been finished been just mediocre. NSMB series have super bland level design to sometimes downright awful level design. Music often bad. The controls are ice. Every one of those games Mario is on ice.

LW is great as they returned to many of the Genesis ideas of the series. Just continue to do what they did for LW and will be fine. I just find it funny when Nintendo fans bash sonic but praise that horrid series of NSMB. They are cheap no effort cash ins.

Many people liked the newest NSMB for Wii U. heard some praise it for the level design. I just even as a kid never saw sonic being around long. Sega needs to shake it up. Willing to bet the next sonic game for psbone will get them back on track

I think shaking things up is part of the problem. Mario games have effectively the same plot for over 30 years (save the princess, defeat Bowser) and only the style and gameplay has changed. Sonic games kept on bringing new characters and story lines which only confuse players that just want to go fast.

I guess... like I said their first current gen game on ps4/xb1 will make fans happy.

The problem with Sonic games is the game play and character has "jumped the shark" every few years. It's a mixed bag and a "let's try this and change that" rather then focusing on what made Sonic... Sonic.

Lost Worlds was solid, perhaps not well received by all but at least it still had that feel of a  genuine Sonic game.

Regarding the NSMB series, the best game was the 1st, on the Wii. The reason it's still well received even if it's been a bit tired out recently on ds/3ds and Wii U entries is that gamers know what to expect, at least partially regarding mechanics, and gameplay. Imagine how much better the NSMB series would be with the budget and development time of a DKC game. I think the NSMB series will take another couple years until we see it's next installment because Nintendo knows it needs something to freshen it up.

I guess... like I said their first current gen game on ps4/xb1 will make fans happy.

Only if the gameplay stays true to what made Sonic successful in the past. If it's another Boom... it's more doom.

3D world should have been NSMB as it combines the best of the 2D games as well as the 3D. First Mario game I enjoyed since 64.

Lol I know this one!!!!!

Make a good Sonic game. Yes, I think that might be the answer.

I started replaying Sonic 2 the other day. It just made me sad really because I'd forgot how good a thing they had going. Feels like a friend dying or something.

I don't think they know how anymore...

They could start by watching Jim Sterling's video on the subject where he points out what should be obvious: that whenever they've found good approaches to gameplay, they've immediately abandoned them for future games.

Another one would be not to loan your main franchise out to random third parties.

They should just make Generations 2 and people will pay attention again. Granted, it is a hard game to get working in three dimensions. But both Sonic Adventure games and Sonic Generations had moments of brilliance. They just need to take those, build on them, and remove the flaws.

No they just need to build on Lost World. See Lost World was going back to the series roots. Colors and Generations are fun but they focus on something Sonic was NEVER EVER about in gameplay.Speed. Yes I said speed.  Sonic on Genesis was about momentum not speed in level design. Levels had branching paths with obstacles. Avoid obstacles keep a momentum and if you do the game rewards with speed. Sonic Adventure up through Gen focused on just running in a straight line as fast as you can and maybe mid course a pit for difficulty. This is lazy. Lost World in many stages esp that first one are the Genesis games in 3D in idea and design. Sonic's abilities are adapted in 3d for this. you are given a run button and climb up ledges to not get stuck. This creates a momentum. Gens gives you boosts and while had platforming was still a straight line from point A to point B.

1SZ3P0b.png

People just like to troll and say it sucks and/or just have no clue what they are talking about. Fact is LW is the first proper 3D Sonic game and the first proper Sonic game in design since 2D era.
