I chuckled when wiiudaily.com called the venture beat writer an analyst.

Engineer updated LinkedIn account, mentions next gen console.

From http://wiiudaily.com...-console-in-cv/

Nintendo test engineer Lu Yang recently updated his resume at LinkedIn, where he lists what he’s currently working on: the Wii U, and a “next generation (unannounced) consoles”. He works at Nintendo of America in Redmond, Washington.

Nintendo has already revealed that they are working on a next-gen system, codenamedNintendo NX, which was announced last month at a press conference.

http://nintendoenthu...nx-region-free/

Nintendo Considering Making Nintendo NX Region-Free

Removing region-locking from current game machines presents various issues, so we don’t consider that to be very realistic. However, regarding NX, given the customer feedback and proposals from the market, while nothing has been decided yet, we’re currently investigating internally what problems there would be in realizing it. You can think of that as the current situation. I understand your desire, so I’d like to look at it optimistically going forward.

Jesus Nintendo stop being such asshats. Just turn it off on Wii U and 3DS. It's simple turn it off with an update. There are no issues. They just want to be backwards about it and find a way to control it in a very restricting way.

They can't really just turn it off as their agreements with all third-party developers will cover the region locking and they would have to agree to the removal of region locking.

Nintendo Says No NX and No Smart Device Announcements at E3

They can't really just turn it off as their agreements with all third-party developers will cover the region locking and they would have to agree to the removal of region locking.

Yeah, it's entrenched in their business model currently. Unfortunately as easy as it could be of just "flipping a switch" a lot of other things have to resolved around a decision like that which can't happen over night.

Something crossed my mind today after reading the Q&A.

We all know that the NX talk isn't new, that Nintendo already talked about its new consoles early 2014.
The question is, why did Nintendo, at the press conference with DeNA, said "dedicated gaming device" and not "dedicated gaming devices"?; Why singular and not in plural if everyone already expected that?
And they still used that expression in singular form during the lates Investor's meeting.

Iwata's reply to a NX question:

"Your question also included the "current notion of thinking about home consoles and handheld devices." When it comes to how dedicated game systems are being played, the situations have become rather different, especially between Japan and overseas. Since we are always thinking about how to create a new platform that will be accepted by as many people around the world as possible, we would like to offer to them "a dedicated video game platform with a brand new concept" by taking into consideration various factors, including the playing environments that differ by country. This is all that I can confirm today."

Remember how he also mentioned how he wanted to change how HW is sold to consumers?

Then, what if, Nintendo really is just making one platform that will come alive through different type of HW?
Iwata already mentioned that he would like to increase the form factors, how he sees both handheld and home consoles for next gen, as brother and sister.

This could very well mean that the HW will execute the brand new concept Nintendo has for its HW but Nintendo could also release variants of the same HW ala Steam Machines/mobile devices.

If this is true it actually goes in line with AMD's statement of a 2016 deal that goes beyond gaming.

More and more, i'm convinced that NX isn't this or that HW, but it's actually a way to play their games. And i wouldn't be surprised if we saw some deals to incorporate NX into stuff like TV, Blu-ray players, etc.

“We will not announce any details about NX until 2016. I used the name “NX” during our joint press conference with DeNA on March 17 because we thought that our announcing the business alliance with DeNA to start a smart device business could result in such misunderstanding as “Nintendo is making a transfer to smart devices because it is pessimistic about the future for dedicated video game systems.” I intentionally chose to announce the development of NX so early because I wanted to confirm the fact that we are developing a new dedicated video game platform, that we have never lost passion regarding the future for dedicated video game systems and that we have bright prospects for them. Though I cannot confirm when it will be launched or any other details of the system, since I have confirmed that it will be “a dedicated video game platform with a brand new concept,” it should mean that we do not intend it to become a simple “replacement” for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U.”

“Your question also included the “current notion of thinking about home consoles and handheld devices.” When it comes to how dedicated game systems are being played, the situations have become rather different, especially between Japan and overseas. Since we are always thinking about how to create a new platform that will be accepted by as many people around the world as possible, we would like to offer to them “a dedicated video game platform with a brand new concept” by taking into consideration various factors, including the playing environments that differ by country. This is all that I can confirm today.”

“Taking this opportunity, because we were often asked if we will make any new announcements about NX, smart device applications or QOL at this year’s E3 show, let me confirm that we will not discuss anything about our smart device business or QOL there because, to us, E3 is an event mainly for dedicated video game systems. Also, because we have confirmed that any new information about NX will be announced in 2016, I hope you will understand that if you expect us to discuss NX during the upcoming E3 show, you will just end up being disappointed.”

Nintendo started talking about NX to third parties at E3, reaction was positive

http://fortune.com/2...-miyamoto-wii-u/

But according to a bit in a new piece by Fortune, Nintendo has just started talking to third party developers and publishers about the NX. According to Fortune, Nintendo started talking about their Wii U successor to other companies at E3, and the reception was positive, according to insiders.

Well, I'm now counting on a ND maybe around February 2016 to somewhat show off the 3DS successor. Kinda like the New 3DS reveal, but a bit less so. E3 2016 will swansong the 3DS and WiiU with the first NX hardware(or software if it's more of an OS) being fully revealed with a 2017 release in March, September, or November. Keeping in mind Japan gets handhelds well before the rest of the world. I think that's a decently educated guess.

Some people always have a cellphone on them. I'm so awesome I always have a 3DS.

Bits and pieces I've heard recently is Miyamoto has taken a step back in development of NX and a rumour of Diddy Kong Racing 2 is being made for it. Take that last one with a grain of salt.

All in all though, im really excited for NX apart from the android stuff surrounding it.

Nintendo has s tremendous opportunity here to reset their timeline.

Intro after the other guys with better hardware.

Recently some Nintendo exec comments brought some doubt though.

Sounds like they are going after the "new thing" again.

The last time they tried a game changer was the Wii.

And that was just a rehashed older gem system sold for more. With a gimmick that actually worked out.

The Wii u was cashing in on the tablet craze. Unfortunately it hurt the budget allocation that could have gone to CPU, GPU, ram etc.

I hope they do something that genuinely enhances how games are played.

But... If they lowball specs again (que reggies maniacal sales pitch about destroying everyone and kicking butt, taking names, etc. only to reveal horribly lackluster hardware...) it's a bad move in today's market.

And furthermore, if they are not technically superior to the other guys, I'm personally done.

The Wii u is a good system in my eyes. But they could have and should have done much more with the hardware.

Like it or not, hardware specs can easily break a game.

Let's not have that happen anymore. K?

This doesn't even qualify as rumor, but on NeoGAF a member posted information about NX, originally in Italian, from someone who says he has sources inside NCL. Very easily could've been completely fabricated. That said, an interesting read.

- He's under strict NDA with Nintendo Japan

- Informations are from march 2015, with some updates from june-july

- He received a bunch of patents (some of them are publics now), info about what Nintendo is planning and a list of games potentially in development (some of them may or may not have been cancelled), third parties included

- NX is a platform, not tied with a single device

- Wii U is still in the picture thanks to good software results for games like Splatoon, will still be the main home console in 2016

- 3DS is a bit old, they're planning of replacing it. Some games will still come out on it, but big projects are being moved on portable NX

- With NX, Nintendo wants to create a platform where they can develop software for multiple devices with ease, from the home console to the portable to smartphone and tablets. They'll have a big catalogue available for multiple platforms, with cross buy, cross saves and cross play, similar to what Microsoft is doing with Xbox One and PC thanks to Windows 10 (that allows to play many Xbox games on PC, which is also getting a bunch of ports from Xbone). Each platform will still have exclusive games

- NNID is tied to the single device, but it will allow to share details between platforms, like friend list, contents, local coop games, etc. Thanks to the new membership program (the successor of Club Nintendo), we'll benefit from the new Nintendo policies in terms of rewards

- They'll show the portable in spring 2016, will be out for the end of the year or spring 2017 max. Specs will be higher than PS Vita but nothing mindblowing, screen resolution should be 540p, considering 720p if costs go down. BC with 3DS was problematic

- Wii U successor will not have an optical drive, which will be optional. It will sync with the portable (not obligatory). Specs won't be super high, but close to PS4/X1 (doesn't know how much, like with the portable this is still subject to change anyway). Cross games will look better on the home

- Nintendo is focusing a lot on the anti-piracy system

- Big focus on the OS as well. They hired people that worked for Google on Android, the guys who worked on the Gamecube OS and Wii U browser are there too. Optimized versions of the same OS for every NX platform (think, again, W10), each with its set of specific functions. Updates will come out at the same time, they're focusing on making the OS blazing fast on every platform

- The home console can connect with the portable to send to it its own version of the games you buy, will use the same tech as the Wii U-Wii U Gamepad streaming to do that, or the internet connection

- The home will have bc with the Wii U. Gamepad should be compatible as a controller, considering selling it standalone. Can connect with the portable for offtv and bc. WiiMote compatibility is being considered too. As for support, since the new home won't have an optical drive, they're considering an external one. Also being considered NNID/eShop bc for titles bought on the eShop. Seems they're considering digital games sharing too, but this bit is not perfectly clear

- The portable will have its own internal memory, which will be expandable

- There will be a complete overhaul of online infrastructures, but Nintendo is determined to hold successful operations as Miiverse, extending it even further and making it a central hub for communications by developers and a meeting place for players. It will be even more interactive with the ability to upload videos and screenshots in an integrated system and not dependent on the game

- Voice chat and interactions between users will be revisited too, much will depend on the users age though, to protect the minors

- The home will be out 6-12 months after the portable, creating the "NX system" that will allow Nintendo to better use their resources in games development

- They approached third parties during E3. Capcom, Square-Enix, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts already have devkits. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Sonic, F-Zero and Metroid are in development, doesn't know if these are main episodes or spin offs. Zelda is currently a Wii U only title due to high development costs, but they can reconsider to have another big game at NX launch

- Prices will be low, 200-300€ (for the home?), considering a bundle with both for no more than 500€

- Many of these things will be discussed in future Nintendo Directs, which will have a different host in every market if Nintendo can't find a new CEO by october

- A new 3D Mario will be shown, along with a new Zelda trailer. Retro moved their project on NX, will not be unveiled before 10-18 months

- They'll talk about a new "Club Nintendo", which will be in full function with NX

- Considering making agreements with phone carriers in order to better manage applications like Miiverse, Club Nintendo and the ability to purchase software by phone. Some of these will be out by March 2016

- Is everything set yet? Yes, but with Nintendo you'll never know. If he has updates he will share them with us.

I read all that and it's either pretty much the same info we already know, or has been speculated about before. At least it's all in one post though.

This makes me lol though.

Yet he drones on about everything. hah

Yeah pretty much reminds me of people who claim to talk to the dead. They'll spew a lot of info, most common sense and all generalized.
