wouldnt say that much. for a couple years yes but overall both systems did pretty well as far as sales. am I wrong?

The 360(And even the PS3) only really was able to stablize for lack of a better term around 2010/2011. 360 had the RRoD issues in spades plus general costs. If I'm recalling correctly, Microsoft burnt money last gen, Sony burned through most of their PS2 profits before they were able to stabilize.

 

They were able to catch up to the point where(I don't have exact numbers as of recently, so this is about 6-8 months ago) Wii was at around 100, 360 at 80ish, and PS3 at 75ish, but it took them the average length of a previous generation to do so(assuming average is 4-5 years)

Wii kicked their ass in sales from start to finish. 101 million sold. MS and Sony didn't make a dime on hardware for  years. Nintendo made about 100$ profit on every Wii sold. At one point there was more Wii's sold than PS360 combined. While PS360 sold well they never caught up to Wii but also lost billions.

I think we should all take a step back and remember that pure console sales don't determine who "won" each generation. It's the awesome games and classics. For example, SMG1/2 AND 101 million Wii sales. Not that I'm saying Wii won. I've barely scratched the surface of last gen's catalog and I'd hate to start that discussion.

well it sucked that they lost money no business wants that to happen.... but you can't feel bad about selling 80-85 million consoles....those are potential customers for your next console and for sony that has worked out perfectly.

Does not matter how much you sell if losing money. Why Wii U sales are not killing Nintendo,Still making profit.

Many PS4 owners were 360 owners. Most the Wii owners went to Mobile. MS lost most it's customers starting 2009 when Natal later Kinect started taking over,many loyal fans were pretty upset with MS and Sony was regaining what it lost. MS has tried to swing XBO around but while doing better than Wii U it's starting to stagnate a bit as two E3's announced very little and most what they do announce is on PC or PS4. Sony as a whole is NOT working out. 18,000 jobs cut in 3 years. Many divisions sold and buildings sold off. MS cut 25,000 jobs last year but they have so much money it matters none. but thats what mattered to sony and look at their console sales this gen. They mad ethe decision they needed to make for changes in hardware and such and they are WINNING this gen. nintendo did all that and really as far as Wii U their console after Wii have nothing to show for it. They are easily the most frustrating company in gaming. also rumored that there are so issues right now within Nintendo. Man I have no idea where they g from here. It is actually a lot worse than the average Nintendo gamer would like to acknowledge.

i understand all that but the industry isn't telling us that... the third party developers aren't caring about that. i mean good that nintendo is making a profit and that they are worth more than sony. But as much as I love the exclusive games the Wii U offers it is the laughing stock of the industry. seriously where does nintedno stand right now? ok you have your core gamers (which seems to be about 10 million) that will buy a console just because their name is on it. My son plays all his sports games on an ipad or his ipod. seriously nintendo can't get a sports game. My son loves soccer and basketball. When i go out to purchase a console should I not take that into account and if the console i get can play games he likes? I know its easy to say buy a second console or get a pc. but right now it seems buying a nintendo console (yes full aware last gen Wii sold 100 million) is a niche purchase. I'm not going to go  as far as asaying Wii was a fad but 10 million sold speaks for itself. I hope nintendo can come back strong with NX (whatever it is) but the odds are STACKED against them in a way no console manufactuer ever had to face. It was not this bad with gamecube going into Wii. so I hope they make the right decisions.

good for Nintendo. I just wish they would have used the money and profits from that gen and did a better job with what we have. no one has ever questioned Nintendo game making ability.... but they seem to be stuck on what they need or what gamers want from a hardware standpoint.

ha! calm down i am just stating the facts that we are in. I mean I guess a nintendo centric forum is not the best place to say anything negative about Nintendo but as a Nintendo gamer that have givien them money on top of money yes i expect them to try and give me the best. it had nothing to do with Wii U not being ps4 ps4 is winning right now like it. so it will be interesting to see where they go from here and and if they can make the decisions needed to change for the better. no issues we don't have to discuss anything else about it.

wasn't battling you keep pushing to try and get a result. yes bad news for sony that they are not in great fiancial status right now. but they sold 80+ million copies of ps3 which you stated was your favorite console from last generation and they are kicking butt this gen. the point I was trying to make is i think the 80+ million helped and the fact that they were releasing stellar first party games and taking chances lettigntheir studios make a lot of new ip's that helps. i mean there will be people that buy the NX (assuming its a home console and can run) for splatoon. they will be wanting and watiing on the sequel. I think sony did good on ps3 with its new ip's and got a lot of peope that were ready to play those on their next generation console. so no i was not trying to debate if Nintendo won last gen (sales and profit) i was just saying that at least in sony case the 80+ million plus their ip is helping the sales of ps4. I have never bought asony gaming product and i am sure I never will so had nothing to do with me wanting nintendo to pull off a sony console clone.
