Crysis 3 will push 360, PS3 "to its limits", says Crytek

Responding to a user on Twitter about the game's full potential being held back due to consoles' age, the founder, CEO and President of Crytek Cevat Yerli assured him that despite the fact that the next gen isn't too far off, Crysis 3 will still be able to push more stuff out of the PS3 and 360 in a technical aspect.

"Crysis3 will push the 360, PS3 to its limits, ahead of Crysis2, but Crysis3 PC will be clearly ahead!"

In addition, Yerli confirmed that the third installment in the franchise will act as a spiritual successor in terms of gameplay to the original Crysis as opposed to the most recent Crysis 2.

"Crysis 3 will be more a spiritual successor in gameplay to Crysis 1 instead of Crysis 2."

Crysis 3 intended to have DIrectX 11 support on PC from day one

Crytek continues its multiplatform approach to development with Crysis 3, aiming to satisfy everyone from console owners to the PC gamers. The developer hopes to have Direct X 11 support for PC at launch this time -- one of several advantages, it says, of having spent 14 months creating content and enhancing CryEngine 3, as opposed to building it and an accompanying game for three major systems.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure we're going to have that," said Rasmus Hojengaard, Director of Creative Development. "I don't know if we've announced that yet, but obviously we're going to have DirectX 11 support since we already did it [for Crysis 2]. We basically started from a Crysis 2 DX11 patch, as starting point, and then we developed our technology from there on. We'd be pretty stupid not to capitalize on the technology we did for that and utilizing that from the get-go."

Crysis 3 was running on PC during a recent unveiling in San Francisco, where Crytek showed off its vision of New York City as a devastated, metropolitan mire being swallowed by nature. While the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions aren't ready to be shown yet, Hojengaard says they will benefit from the studio's philosophy in art design, with the game being "actually less reliant on shader technology than, you know, just really good moods, good light setups, and good asset creation."

That approach, in turn, also supports the PC version, which still lives beneath the franchise's reputation for crippling even the most exorbitant hardware. "We also want to make sure, even if you're on the PC, even if you don't have the super powerhouse, nuclear power plant at home, you can still run the game and get a beautiful experience from it."

Hopefully if they release a Wii U version they can push it to its limits, but I don't think they will do that. So, do you guys want a Wii U version or do you not care about Crysis at all?

I have a strong feeling the game will make it for Wii U, especially since the system is easy to develop for.

Yeah, you've done a great job so far, letting the Metal Heads destroy the palace.

while i somehow doubt that crytek will choose to put a lot of specific love into this title for the wiiu, i would still really like to see it come to the system. i thoroughly enjoy the franchise (yes, even crysis2).

i could really see crytek doing some work on a ground-up title for wiiu - just seems like something that they would be good at, and interested in doing (especially considering some of the comments that have been made) that really pushes the system's hardware. no telling when this woud happen, though... so i'd take crysis 3 for now!

That one was more for the Trailers, and also because it was too late when I realized it.

Crysis 3 confirmed for NOT COMING TO WII U.

"Not a.... Fat Chance."
He pauses, it's not a double-negative, it's him saying "I don't think it's possible".

I know all that, I'm just letting folk know.
In before three new threads about the interview in an hour.

I felt this went without saying, but apparently people are stupid:
Crysis 3 has been in development for years, before Nintendo decided to share the fact they have a new console, it was always unlikely to arrive on Wii U unless Nintendo paid them.
It's not about power, it's about development time.
You can't magic a game in a few months, games like crysis, and even call of duty take at least 2 years to make.

The recent CoD titles make me wonder what they do in those 2 years.

Crysis 2 was released AFTER the first Wii U dev kits were released. I'm almost positive of this.
