Teeeheeeheee I am so exited! It should have 4-8 GB OF RAM So I have no idea what they plan to do with all this RAM but that is at least a 5x improvement from the PS3 and Xbox. So at least this is reassuring.

"The new memory technology, a key element of the new Power microprocessor that IBM is building for the Nintendo Wii U console, can triple the amount of memory contained on a single chip, making for extreme game play." Holy crap, I just got extremely excited! I'll be very surprised if this system DOESN'T cost 350$.

Your title is misleading. I thought for a second you were talking about all the hardware.

Orion posted it on another thread. Where'd you get 4-8GB of RAM from? Says nothing of the sort on there.

Sir, you got it all wrong. The memory refers to the CPU (eDRAM a.k.a. L3 cache) which is built onto the same die as the CPU, allowing for lower latencies and quicker calculations per second. That just means the CPU is awesome for gaming, as it will free up a lot of tasks from the GPU and VRAM. However, only a maximum of 4MB per core of eDRAM is able to be added. That means that if the rumors of a tri-core CPU are true, the Wii U won't have more than 4x3= 12MB of eDRAM (Xbox 360 has 10MB of eDRAM for comparison, Wii has 2MB, PS3 has 0MB).

An extra 2MB of eDRAM won't make that much of a difference CPU wise (which fits with Wii U rumors that the CPU is near the level of the 360) but the Wii U's Power7-like CPU has the advantage of being newer, more energy efficient and less heat producing (45nm process compared to the Xenos which I think is 90nm, so twice as big and energy drawing) leading to a cooler console, meaning better performance from the hardware. IF the Wii U gets a quad-core, than the eDRAM will get up to 16MB and then you will notice a difference compared to the Xbox 360.

eDRAM is awesome, and it is what allowed the 360 to actually run some multiplat games better than on the PS3 (Skyrim, Mortal Kombat, Mass Effect come to mind).

where is the 4gb info? maybe the image down bellow that says " 4mb file size" ??? this is a bmp file to download from their sever.. Secondly, a cpu cannot have 4gb of memory inside it! but 4mb ... Thats what I said all the time.. 4mb internal cache.. L1 16kb x 4, L2 64kb x 4, L3 4mb 1mb each core. but maybe its more indeed..

Power 7 cpus can handle up to 16mb cache... 4 mb per core.. But personally I believe its extreme. If nintendo do that.. is going to be an extreme in AI system.. it will blow even the pc out of the water.. lol Imagine that Intel 3930k or 3960x cpu 6 core 12 threads, have 12 mb cache..

Power 7 is different architecture from INTEL.. IBM is better and faster, pro cpus.. The one that wii U uses is the 4 core / 16 threads...(4 threads per core)... and 4 up to 16mb cache... from 2.4 up to 3.3 GHZ.

I thought this was the launch lineup...

What would IBM know about software?
Or was the thread title changed?

Your link has nothing to do with the Wii U, where you're plucking your leaks from seems to be thin air to me.
Look at the date of the accompanying press release, e3 last year.
All it says is IBM has a contract to fabricate the CPU for the Wii U.
