http://www.thisisxbo...nsoles-already/

"Epic Games vice president Mark Rein has dropped the next-gen bombshell by confirming that their mighty engine which powers hit games such as Gears of War, and Batman Arkham City is already running on next gen hardware.

At the DICE summit in Las Vegas this week, Rein confirmed that Epic would reveal Unreal Engine 4 later this year. The Unreal Engine 4 is also currently running with “systems we can’t name yet,” Rein is reported to have said during the DICE Awards.

Recently we reported that alpha forms of the next-generation Xbox console which could be named “XBOX 8″ – not 8 because it’s the eighth Xbox, but because it’s the eighth generation home console and heavily shares the same software as upcoming Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. It was reported to us that the next-gen console was on display by invite only during CES 2012, running a version of Battlefield 3 in next-gen visuals – most likely to be up on par with current high-spec gaming PC’s.

Microsoft previously reported that there will be no next-gen Xbox announcement at E3 2012, but then again we also remember the amount of times they denied an Xbox 360 Slim console before that was the surprise of E3 2010!"

This does make a lot of sense, and knowing Microsoft they will most likely do it, anyway what do you guys think?.

"Epic Games vice president Mark Rein has dropped the next-gen bombshell"

AND yet again, everyone seems to completely ignore the Wii U or don't count it as next-gen. Sigh.

Xbox 8 sounds pretty crappy, but Microfanboys will just say it's better than Wii U because F*** YOU, THAT'S WHY.

The name makes sense, but it just doesn't sound an look good. I'd rather have them stick with 720, 3, heck, even Durango is better maybe.

Don't get me wrong, I love Xbox's consoles and I might end up buying it, if it's for a decent price.
No sig.

I'm pretty sure when they meant that they meant "Epic Games vice president Mark Rein has dropped the next-gen bombshell for Microsoft".

Makes perfect sense. It would just be boring to call it Xbox 720 like everyone expects it to be.

LOL! I would die laughing if the next X-Box is called X-Box 8. I personally think it's an awful name.

To Go from the number "Three Hundred and Sixty" to "Eight" doesn't sound too smart, marketing wise, not to mention a little all over the place.

Yeah, I get the whole Windows 8 and Eighth Gen stuff, but it's not a good idea to me. It comes off as random to the average joe, so I don't think it's the final name at all...
Then again, they did come up with the name "Durango" as a project name, and that's a little strange. Reminds me of that gas guzzling SUV every time I hear it.

Man, I hope it's a different name. I'm expecting a word after X-Box (like "X-Box Prime" or something), not a number.

Agreed xbox 8 not only sounds horrible but also like a marketing disaster.

Most consumers will think this is moving backwards rather then progressing due to the 360's name.

@dagwood while i agree durango sounds weird its just a codename they could call it "hippie" it wouldn't really matter.

It's probably what they meant yeah but then again, there was already speaking of a new Xbox console. But it doesn't really matter anyway..

I agree with the above, it's not a good marketing name.

If it uses Windows 8 as its OS, count me out. Windows 8 sucks. Big time.

Quit whining, Windows 8 is pretty much the most efficient OS I have used, I can't be bothered to explain all the details. Just because you don't like the new modern platform and UI doesn't mean it isn't powerful. Also Metro aside, the old desktop has had an overhaul aswell and for me it feels natural using both metro and desktop.

Anyway now onto this rumour, from the get go it opposes previous rumours of switching to an AMD platform, which doesn't make sense, well it does, if they stick with IBM and PPC then backwards compatibility is no problem, however it doesn't explain why the major archetural people from the Windows team moved to the xbox division where as shifting to the AMD CPU rumour did make sense. The shift to AMD also means that the windows 8 kernel is more easy to port for use on the Next Box, which again major people from the kernel team shifted to Xbox Division.

Next up, codename ‘Loop’ and codename ‘Infinity’ are meant to relate to services accessible within the online functions of XBOX 8 and not actually be names of the console itself. Infinity is an enhanced form of what we know now as Xbox LIVE, and will be the platform used for future Xbox 8 digital downloads, Windows 8 digital downloads, and Apps for all three systems.

Firstly the Windows 8 apps run on WinRT which is only available in the Windows Store, Microsoft is basing the Windows Store on the Windows Live team and relies on the infrastructure of Windows Update. I don't get why they would shift from WinRT (a brand new set of APIs that devs have just gotten used to) and the current backbone of the windows store (which is very stable and services nearly every PC on the internet) to an untested system.

Windows Phone Apps will run on Windows 8 but Windows 8 apps will not run on Windows Phone 8, so I don't see how this three platform app will work when Xbox 360 runs on silverlight (which is pretty much dead and they would have to do a major dashboard overhaul).

Well that's my dissection, I'm coming from the general MS point of view, not the Xbox point of view. I've never heard of this website before and none of the MS reporters than I follow have actually reported on this rumoured information yet. Who knows maybe in a day others will shed light as to if this is true or false.

Hey look same rumors the wii u has lol sounds on par with wii u to me which is good because having extra unneccesary power in q console is stupid if developers are already using wii u as their next gen platform which IS the case .
Even though i dont care about this system and microsoft it sounds good

I personally am not a fan of "Xbox 8" or "Xbox infinity". If it's "infinity", what's after that? They're giving the darn thing names that are going to be hard to build up from. The one after this next one? "Xbox infinity Plus One"?

But then again, Wii isn't exactly a "badass" name either, same for Wii U, but at least it can be built on from although a weak name. I just wish Nintendo would give the U a brand new name instead of going forward with the Wii name.

But Xbox 8 is confusing...

Wow. Someone's been drinking Microsoft's Kool-aid about windows 8. The most efficient OS you've ever used? Trust me, I've tried 8 on my dad's computer. The thing chugs with 8 gigs of memory and a 2.2 GHz Quad core. Ubuntu uses WAY less resources compared to Windows 8, and it's free. So yeah, not very good for MS, is it? As for it being modern, the whole thing is just crap. When i have to swap between the two interfaces to get simple tasks done such as getting a game open, that is just pure, unfiltered suckage.

I doubt they'd run it on Windows 8......... Because windows 8 sucks big time... ..............................................
Heh heh hahahahahaha!!!! ...*sigh*... mmm....................................................................................im serious.

But regardless, I think if Microsoft wants to bring together their games division with their OS and software divisions, then they would do something like... name them all a stupid name, the same stupid name.
They want a big ol' network to connect all of their costomers to more of their services, which is fine... if i cared. But this name and this (possible) concept is pushing me away from Microsoft.... and i'm not going to Apple.... soo where do i go?

It makes sense with the windows 8 integration and all. The eight could be seen as the infinity symbol too. But it seems weird to go from 360 to 8 lol. I call BS.

I run it flawlessly with 2.5 ghz Dual Core and 3 gigs of RAM.

One time logging in for all the services that I need. Sharing of data between applications with out much effort and with a cloud centric focus how can you not agree that Windows 8 is very powerful. About drinking the kool aid, I pretty much do when it comes to Windows if by drinking the kool aid you mean understanding inside and out about windows. Also about RAM management, the apps may use a lot of memory buy again thw OS is efficient at managing it and will remove suspended apps (and store its state to disk) when more memory is needed. You are coming at it from a different approach, you are using Windows 8 as if it were 7. Use windows 8 as it is intended. I have an all in one and my custom rig, and it works well on both touch and traditional mouse and keyboard. It is my main OS
