Im not sure what else nintendo cud do, its still true to the wii and simple and clean in design, it wud hide nicely in anybodys front room or bedroom which is what people want. I remember when i saw the ps3 first edition and thought "wow that is far to biig and bloody ugly" nobody could fit it anywhere so it was always just sat on the floor looking a bit seperated, i think small plain and simple is best, after all it works for apple!

If they wanted to retain the simplicity and stylish design of the Wii (and retain its design features and look) yet somehow make it a little more "hardcore"-looking, they could maybe do something like this

Look up close to it. It looks nothing like the Wii. Yah its white...and a box shape...so what. If people base getting a system on looks over whats inside it then they should just be shot point blank in the face and put out of their misery.

That's the thing, you're a minority. The console looks too much like a Wii. If Nintendo wants to attract the core/hardcore crowd, they need to make it look less like a Wii.

Ok...? Have you seen how many people think it's a Wii? They need to at least change the color.

All I really care about is color options. A black Wii U and Controller would be awesome. But due to idiots, it must be changed.

If you're insinuating that America is the only country with a few ignorant people, that is wonderfully and ironically ignorant.

Also, I wouldn't say people who thought it was a Wii are inferior in some way, they just enjoy video games but don't go total internet nerd over it like us. They probably didn't even watch E3, maybe a brief recap of E3. Nintendo themselves said they dropped the ball on how they presented Wii U.

I just don't like it being black, I've never been a fan of glossy black plastic, it to me reminds a lot of the black switch 810 case (look it up). I personally don't know what colour option will be better. I think we could see a box redesign, either the chip is very efficient and produces less heat, thus the low profile-ness or that thing was just a concept and it would be bigger. If they keep it that size then props to them.

As long as I get ethernet and optical put then I am more than happy with any change

while i do appreciate the attempt at a redesign i think that Wii U looks far to much like a box it just looks to perfect and angular. though i would pretty much rather them have anything but the current wii u design.

Blocky is coming back. It's just like clothing styles, music, decorations, kitchen styles, etc, things go out of style then come back a couple decades later.

Look at newer car models compared to ones 5-10 years old. Blocky is coming back and roundish is going away. 10 years ago it was all about how round can you make it, think about mazda miata's, dodge stratus, ford taurus. They were all smooth ovals. Now look at the new Catelacs, the new ford taurus, etc. They have defined lines, angles, corners.

It's a stylish blocky though, and I kinda like it actually.

I don't like blocky for a new console. GC and Wii were blocky, time for something new.

I honestly don't give a single crap about how the console looks, as long as it doesn't have some design flaw like the 3DS did.

As Nintendo said, the console is just a box, it doesn't need to be anything else.

Perversely the larger the wii U gets may reduce costs overall. Some laptop cooling systems are quite expensive, trying to effectively cool in a small place, parts need to be higher quality with more heat sink material. You create more space and have a better layout to dispense heat and you can save money with cheaper components. The slim 360 is testament to that. I hope this is whats happening as its strong evidence that performance should be more competitive. Personally I don't mind a more bulky console if it means a console with decent power that will have long term solid reliability.
