Then again, it's made by Team Ninja, not Nintendo, so it should come as no surprise that they made it their way.
I don't know, but I think it's a steal for $20, just based on what I know about it so far. I've yet to play it for myself, though.

Pretty much this. It's an alright game but a pretty bad Metroid game, imo it's worth $20 at the most. It's not really that great as a Metroid game, but it's good if you like games with more cutscenes and stories than gameplay. I don't think it's worth it, but then again, I also think it's a disgrace to the Metroid series!

The other issues I had with the game is they do this thing just before you walk into an area that will trigger a cut scene where they zoom in on Samus and you can't change the camera angle and you walk really slow. I found that annoying. Also, at some points in the game Samus has to find something before the cut scene can continue. So, they freeze a scene and you have to look over the scene and move the cursor over something your supposed to notice. I had to look up online what I needed to mouse over, because I could never see the thing I was supposed to notice. I didn't understand why they just didn't do the cut scene without that because I felt that looking for something in that scene was so pointless. The cut scenes can be really long. Especially the last one. The game played from a fight scene to a cut scene to another fight scene without a save and I had to leave for work(I clocked that last scene at over 1.5 hours without letting you save), so I had to pause it and beg my wife not to turn it off for the day (which meant no Netflix for her or the kids).
So, is it worth $20? If you really like Metroid (which I do) and $20 won't break your bank then it's worth it just to play through at least once. But, you've been warned
