First of all, Nintendo started with the Nintendo Direct video. It showed the final form of the Wii U and I'll admit, it's really sexy in my opinion. I also liked how they introduced the black Wii U. It was satisfying IMO. And I hope you werent expecting to get the specs anytime near E3... Knowing that Microsoft and Sony are thinking about their new console and that it's not in development yet, revealing the specs would have given more than enough time to choose a way more powerful processor and stuff like that. If the next XBox/PS is planned to be released one year after the Wii U, aknowledging the specs at the launch day would be too late for the competitors sincec they would have most likely already set the specs for their console. We're talking about basic economy logic.
Now the conference itself was not baThere I'm talking about the 3rd parties more than everything. And let me say that the Wii U has a really good lineup for the launch of the console (3rd party-wise). People are even complaining about the third party support, and this is something I don't understand. People now focus on the games that are not coming to the Wii U! Hey this is the start of the new gen, heck! Don't expect every game to be present! As said Reggie, Western developpers play it safe and wait before getting into the idea. We sure would like to see GTA V coming to the Wii U, but do you think Rockstar knows fully how the system work?
I understand that people are looking at current gens and say: "They're getting more support than Wii U does". Don't forget that they're not new consoles at all.
I know that Nintendo announced a bunch of casual games but hey, they need the casual audience too. Nintendo is a company that makes money. They don't want to lose the casual market to Microsoft, as far as I know. They announced casuals like Just Dance 4, those games that sell VERY well. You know why? Journalists and retailers are watching this. The retailers will already start allowing people to preorder those games, making the Wii U become familiar to everybody. This is how they're preparing for launch day.
Here, I don't know if that's true, but Nintendo might be preparing a summer conference. I think it would be really well timed to pump up the hardcores' hype by presenting the loads of 3rd parties and maybe some IP/exclusives.
As I said before, Nintendo are a big company. How do you think they killed Atari, Coleco Vision, and Sega? They've been the most smart. They know what they're doing, so I don't understand how people bash them and make them look like amateurs. They did what they had to and went out. (Actually I want to say that I felt like Reggie did an amazing job this week.)
Finally, they didn't say too much about the Wii U and the games, and that has me getting more excited. I don't know for you guys, but the hype didn't go down after this E3.
